Just Friends – Part 13
It was Thursday evening and Lara received a text from Amit.
“Are you free tomorrow?”
He obviously wanted to let her know how his ‘date’ with Krishna/Christian had gone.
“Yup, there’s never anything going on in my life, you know that!”
She didn’t really want to discuss his love life, considering he had been meeting someone who she had had a huge crush on, but as Amit was one of her best friends, she had to be there to dissect. It was the way their friendship worked
“Ok, 7pm at Bar Buddha. See you inside. And dress up! Mwaaaaahhhh! Big kisses xxxxxx”
He obviously had something to celebrate. They didn’t usually go there unless there was something big…
– – – – –
And this was how Friday night found her:  killer heels on, dressed up, well not totally, but she looked ok. It would pass for an evening with Amit.
She pushed open the door, smiling at the bouncer on the way in. “Alright, Ray!” He smiled and nodded back.
Lara scanned the room for any signs of her diva friend. He would surely be in their usual corner, ready with drinks, snacks, and plenty to tell her.
Walking further in, she spotted Amit, and he was indeed in their favourite spot… And not alone… next to him, sat Krishna, and Neil with her nemesis, Mya.
Great. Now she was going to have to spend an evening watching Amit moon over Krishna, and Mya being all lovey-dovey with Neil. What a perfect evening. As she made her way towards them, Mel approached the table too, with a tray of drinks. So the whole gang was there. It must be something if Amit had invited everyone!
 – – – – – – –
Bracing herself, she plastered on a grin, and joined the group.
“Lara! Darling! You made it!” Amit shuffled over and made a space for her, in between Krishna and him.
She looked at him a bit oddly. Strange, why isn’t he sitting with his beau? But she squeezed in nonetheless.
“Hi all, sorry I was late…” Mel handed her a drink.
She went round the group and gave everyone a little smile, and stopped at Krishna/Christian. “New addition to the group then, huh?”
“Hey Lara. Yeah, you could say that, possibly…”
They sat there, sipping drinks, everyone making small talk.
Lara turned towards Amit and whispered in his ear “So, how was the date?”
“Date? Oh, erm…” He looked a little sheepish “Yeah, about that… hey, I’m just going to grab another round all. Same again? Lar, can you come with me, I might need some help carrying them back.”
He got up and made his way towards the bar, turning to look at Lara and beckoning her almost urgently.
“Well, this must be something big Amit if you have called me away from the others! Usually, we hear all about your exploits!”
“You were right,” Amit said as they reached the bar.
“About what?” a little puzzled, Lara raised her eyebrow at him.
“Straight as a ruler! Don’t know what’s going on but I need to get my gaydar fixed!” He looked over at the table they had just left.
Following his gaze, Lara’s eyes stopped at Krishna, who was deep in conversation with she-devil Mya, probably about some stupid yoga pose.
“What Krishna? But your date? What happened? I thought he called you? Ok, I am confused… or is he?” Considering Krishna/Christian had called Amit himself, Lara had pretty much resigned herself to the fact that her crush, Christian from university did indeed bat for the other side.
“Well, that’s just it Lar. I went to meet him for coffee after work yesterday, at the place he suggested, thinking we were going to make some connections… Heck, I even wore my lucky pants! And all he wanted to talk about was YOU!”
Huh?! Confusion struck Lara again. “What? Why?” She glanced over to the table, at Krishna/Christian and caught him staring back at her. When he realised he had been clocked, he looked away.
“Why do you thing, you dappy cow? He fancies you! It can’t have come as that much of a surprise, can it?”
