FRIDAY FICTION with RONOVAN WRITES Prompt Challenge #24-A Concert.

Friday night, Friday fiction time! Check Ronovan’s post out here.

  • Word Count is off! Let’s focus on the theme of the thing. Not many actually stick to the word count anyway. (SUGGESTED-No more than 500 if you want to try that.)
  • Using the prompt of ‘A Concert, WRITE. There are lots of different kinds of concerts. Maybe you will write about someone being in one, attending one, putting one on. Or something I haven’t thought of or mentioned.(REQUIRED)

What, oh what will Lara get up to this time?

Remember, all feedback, gratefully received!

Just Friends Part 14
Here she was, stood in front of The O2, shifting nervously from foot to foot.
Who would have thought 10 years ago, that she would ever be in this position! Going on a ‘date’ with Christian!
After Amit dropped that little bombshell, and the message finally sunk in, Lara realised, that the guy she had had such a crush on all those years ago, was actually reciprocating her feelings! Krishna/Christian fancied her! She still couldn’t believe it.
Thinking back to last night, she smiled…
* * *
It took a couple of stiff drinks to get the courage up to go back to the table. No wonder she had felt Christian’s eyes on her several times that evening, and this was the reason that Amit had got her to sit in the middle of him and Christian. A little bit of matchmaking!
“You know how much I hate to be wrong, but when I got that call from him, I was convinced. It had to be me that he wanted! Then he started fishing for information, you know, how long had I known you, what you did, did you have a boyfriend… I have to admit it took a little while, but finally, it dawned on me that he was not after me and my lucky pants, but he wanted you!”
Sitting back down, Lara felt butterflies in her stomach, as if she was 14 again, and faced with the prospect of having to talk to her crush!
“Hi, again….” Krishna/Christian smiled at her nervously. “I bet you think I am really sad, huh. Getting someone else to talk to you for me. The thing is, I’ve never been good at talking to the opposite sex…”
Really? Lara thought. From what she could remember, there were always a crowd of females around him at university, but then again, she didn’t remember any specific girl in his life.
Around the table, she was getting silly looks, eyebrows waggling from Mel, nudges from Amit who was on her other side, and Neil and Mya, well actually, they were busy cooing to each other.
“Erm, shall we move to somewhere a bit more private Christian, oops sorry, I mean Krishna? I can’t cope with the mob watching our every move and listening in. Some people, “ she said, giving Amit a shove with her elbow, “just don’t know when to keep their noses out of others business!”
Amit looked at her, with faux hurt on his face, but his eyes were smiling! “Go on, get outta here, you two, cramping my style anyway!” and he winked.
A few feet away, another table had become free, so they went and sat there. “Listen, Lara, just call me Christian, please! That Krishna moniker is for the yoga lot really, not me. They seem to believe I am a much better instructor with an Eastern sounding name… My family and friends still call me Christian.”
“Oh, ok then!” Phew thought Lara, she had been getting a little frustrated with the name change, so this was great!
“So, well, erm… I don’t really know what to say… God, I hate being put on the spot…” Christian floundered slightly.
“Well, maybe we need another drink. I’ll just go get some more drinks.” Lara got up to go, but Christian stopped her. “No, let me. Vodka with lemonade and lime right? That was your thing back in the day, wasn’t it?”
“Yeah, er, thank you.” As he went off, Lara sat back, amazed that he even knew, let alone remembered what her favourite drink was!
He came back, and the next hour or so flew past. Christian had said he had always liked her, but she was so independent, never one of the pack, flouncing around him, that he thought she wasn’t interested. It was like fate, or Mya, who had brought them back into each others lives once more.
They settled into a comfortable conversation, reminiscing about uni days, and different people they knew, the places they remembered frequenting. The next think you know, the others were pulling jackets on. Looking at her watch, Lara saw it was past midnight. Wow!
“So, I was wondering, “ Christian began, “how would you like to meet up again?”
“Yeah, I’d like that.” She smiled back at him.
“How about tomorrow? I know it’s short notice, but I sort of had a pair of tickets to a gig tomorrow night. Maybe we could go?”
“Oh wow, that is soon! Erm..”
“It’s the Jodeci Returns concert, at the O2. I think, if I remember rightly, you always were into a bit of R’N’B music.”
Jodeci!!! Only one of her favourite bands at the time! Oh goodness, even if she hadn’t liked him, she would have had to say yes. Those tickets were like gold dust, being a one night only show!
“That would be wonderful Christian. Yes, I’d love to accompany you!”
* * *
And so this was how she found herself outside the O2, waiting to go and see her favourite band in concert. With her university crush…

    Hmmm. What can I do with this one? 🙂 Muahahahahaaha. Glad you settled the name thing. 🙂 (One piece of advice, watch the use of think of thing. I think it’s either a auto-correct thing or finger muscle memory thing. It does show up in your work at times. But like I said, our fingers remember certain letter sequences and go where they want to sometimes.)

    Love how you got the concert aspect from Ronovan into this installment, Ritu. I hope it doesn’t all come crashing down for Lara. Then again, maybe she’ll break his heart? So, we’re at the O2 for the next installment. I wonder what Ronovan has up his sleeve?
