FRIDAY FICTION with RONOVAN WRITES Prompt Challenge #28-A Dream.

Friday night (on a Saturday!) fiction time! Thanks for the prompt Ron!

Friday Fiction with Ronovan Writes

  • Word Count is off! Let’s focus on the theme of the thing. Not many actually stick to the word count anyway. (SUGGESTED-No more than 500 if you want to try that.)

  • Using the prompt of ‘A Dream’, WRITE. Is a dream something that happens while asleep or something you want really really bad?  Or is it something else entirely? (REQUIRED)

Just Friends – Part 19
Lara didn’t know if she was sat in a dream or running through a nightmare.
A few short weeks ago, she would have given anything to have heard those words from Neil.
Now… well, the whole situation was different. She had found that since meeting Christian again, she was actually feeling happy for Neil and Mya, rather than resentment.
Had Neil really been all she had built him up to be?
She pulled her hand away from his grasp.
“Neil, you are upset, confused. You don’t know what you’re saying…”
“No, I do know.  I can’t believe I hadn’t thought of this before. Jeez, it’s like I was so wrapped up in my life, I never really opened my eyes to what, or who, was around me.” Neil went to hold her hand again, but Lara moved back in her seat.
“But Mya…You two are so cute together. Neil, no, this is not right.”
“I’m not so sure. I just feel so comfortable with you Lar. I can be myself. It’s like I am always putting some sort of act on when I’m with her.  She wants this perfect relationship, with PDA’s, kisses on street corners, with her foot lifted up, in picturesque poses, just in case she gets photographed. She wants dinners in fancy restaurants and cocktails in all the new bars. She’s never happy with just a quick drink down the local pub. Heck, did you know I’ve never seen her without makeup!”
Lara looked at him, shocked. “Really? But you stay at hers all the time!”
“That’s just it. She is up before me so she can prepare herself, and then she slips back into bed and adopts the ‘I’m still asleep’ pose. I do believe she thinks I’m stupid, but I’m awake and lying there, watching her little charade, then, to protect her feelings, I don’t say anything.”
Well, this was a turn up for the books! Lara was pretty amazed. Did women seriously go to so much effort? She thought that sort of thing just happened in chick flicks, not in reality!
Her mind wandered again to that morning, and how awful she looked when Christian had turned up. He hadn’t run away…
“Look, Neil, I think you are just getting cold feet. Getting married is a huge deal, but it’s not a bad thing. And anyway, you haven’t even set the date yet! Did you want me to talk to Mya?” She cringed as she offered this. Spending any extra time, over and above necessary with that Barbie doll was not her idea of fun, but if it meant helping Neil out…
It had taken ages to get him to just chill out and go home.
Lara finally got back to the flat and ran herself a bath.
If she hadn’t had to go and meet with Neil and have that surreal conversation, she might have been out at dinner with Christian now…
Sinking into the water, she settled down to dream about what could have been happening tonight, had she not been needed elsewhere…

Any feedback gratefully received!

Oh, and I would be interested to know who actually uses the audio link.. .if it isn’t used much, then I shall stop the recordings!!

And for the audio link!

Well, she got out of that one unscathed. I have a feeling Neil’s not done with her just yet, though. 😀
I’d ditch the audio and concentrate of the writing. When this becomes an audio book, you can do the recordings then.

Phew… I am so glad she still sticks to Christian! Thank you, Sis 😅 To be honest, I start reading right away and remember the audio at the end when I see it. But then I often (not always) listen to it again.
