It’s Been a Cold Week!

We’ve had some really frosty weather here this week, you know, temperatures hitting below freezing.

Pretty icy ferns inside my car!!

I have had to scrape ice off the windscreen at least twice!

Now I am firmly a ‘spray with de-icer and scrape’ kinda girl, but my sis in law usually splashes lukewarm water over hers and is good to go. Her father is a car salesman with his won garage, and he swears by it.

So, on the second day, I thought ‘why not try it, and filled a bottle with warn water, and got ready to pour and leave with speed.

And this happened. The frost lay on the ground ‘deep and crisp and even’, it was -3.5 degrees celsius, and my windscreen was a sheet of ice!

Why?

Because no one told me I needed to actually stick the wipers on while pouring!

Spent another 10 minutes dislodging ice instead of frost off the windscreen instead!

Women drivers eh!!!

I heard about this warm water trick… but I would never do it! I was too afraid that I had a completely frozen windscreen or even that the glass breaks. I think it can be a bad idea when the temperatures are too deep!

This is one big reason why I don’t like winter that much. Cars and winter are not a perfect match 😉

Oh No! I have tried defrosting my car this way. It looked great but then when I actually left for work 10 mins later it had frozen up again and was even worse to get off!
I know have a much better method of getting the ice off in the mornings. It is called a Mr Grump! 🙂

Warm water may well work well with slightly below freezing temps but, if your climate changes to more dramatic drops in temp, I would not suggest it as the quick rise in temp and resulting fast expansion of glass could shatter the windshield. We would never use warm water here (Canada). We usually scrape first, and put the heater on full with air being directed to windshield… and leave it for a few minutes. 🙂
