#SoCS Dec. 10/16 – Bear/Bare

Linda’s Saturday prompt

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “bear/bare.” Use one, use both, use ’em any way you please. Have fun!

The Bare Necessities.

One of my all time favourite Disney songs, from my absolute favourite movie, The Jungle Book!

It’s one of those songs that I simply cannot stop singing, once I hear it! You know, like one of those ear worms, that annoy the heck out of you, except this one doesn’t annoy me, but probably annoys all those around me as I go about my business, being Baloo the Bear, singing about the best way to go about life (if you were a bear!)

Many people ask me if I like it because of the connection to India, me being Indian, but to be honest, it’s as far removed from any India I have ever experienced! In fact it didn’t really click to me that the film was even based in India until much later!

As I got older, then the racial connotations of people calling Indian boys Mowgli, started to make sense.

But you know what, I am not interested in making this some preachy post about racism, and stereotyping, oh no!

I just want to celebrate this fantastic film, and song!

So, which song is your ear-worm of choice?

That song/video goes on Swedish television every Christmas eve at 15:00. In the 80′ and 90’s almost everyone watched the program with little bits from Disney movies. This song is still one of the episodes. And it’s great to see every year. I know I can see it on youtube all year around, but for me it’s Swedish Christmas eve mode 🙂

I love Jungle Book but my particularly favourite Disney movie is Alice in Wonderland. Actually, I am a big fan of the book as well and have at least 10 different copies. My favourite song is “Paining the roses red” with my favourite stanza being
    [All:] The queen
    She likes them red
    If she saw white instead
    She’d raise a fuss
And each of us would quickly lose his head”

Nicely turned. I like the way you’re appreciating a song you love. Better to enjoy the beauty, to celebrate the “now.”. 🙂

My favorite songs vary from mood to mood; from Metallica (yes, the rock group) to Bliss (not the rock group). Some days it’s classical, other’s it’s Debussy (impressionist). I can tell you which 2 songs I hate the most, though, and they haven’t changed in 35 years.

One of the best Disney songs ever for sure. I bought the CD for my daughter when she was 3. I was 8 months pregnant with my second child and looked like having swallowed an oversized football. I remember a video we took then. That song was playing and the focus was on my daughter when I came around the corner singing along loudly and looking like Baloo himself 😂😂😂
