So, earlier this morning I received a concerning email which prompted me to post about Strange Emails.
Well, what can I say but that the email content itself was a little confusing…
“To set your password, click here…”
I hadn’t requested anything? Why would l want to do anything password related??!!
Well, the mystery has been somewhat solved!
The blogger behind My Theory, originally found at https://mtheory123.wordpress.com/ has changed from the WP free site to self-hosted. He was trying to migrate his followers to his new site, Shining Theory, http://www.shiningtheory.com/.
Therefore we received these emails.
I have since confirmed this and am now safe in the knowledge that no one is trying to use WP to spam, or scam, my site, or yours!!!!
If you have received an email from this blogger, this is the reason.
I haven’t set any passwords, as it was requested, but simply refollowed on the new web address!

I am glad that you got it sorted, but like Erika mentioned, it seems a pretty unusual way to migrate followers.
I don’t remember doing anything like that when I moved to self-hosting and I certainly would never ask anyone for passwords! 🙂

It must be a pain to move your blog to self hosting and then to keep your followers linked to your site. Sometimes staying put is what’s best.

all my emails are stuff like WP notifications or free prescription drugs out of Canada or how to buy cheap Viagra or how someone in Africa needs my help moving some money. my life is boring as compared to yours.
