You know me, I go home, have a root around and find something interesting to blog about whenever I go home!

And why should this time be any different?

When we had this glut of celebrities keeling over on us last year, I remembered that back in the day I would have bought the records of some of the singers. I wondered whether in the rubbish treasure my mum hoards keeps, those vinyls would be there.

Well they were, and so many more classics I hadn’t even known about before!

As she went to hunt down where my records were, she found a bag with some that had been hers when she was at school. My mum went to an English girls boarding school in Kenya when growing up, and the ‘Matron’ had to keep all their treats, be it edible ones or those things you wanted to listen to. On a weekend, Matron would allow the girls to take their special items, and mum had these 7 inch and 12 inch discs… some real classics!

I actually can’t believe she was into David Bowie!!

Then she hoiked out a little suitcase which held some records that my brother had entrusted in her care… (Mine had still not been found…)

The speeches of Winston Churchill surprised me!

After much huffing and puffing mum uncovered the precious old Technics stereo that we used to use back in the day. My brother has made them keep it, for him to have when he has his own house!  And inside, were all the records I remembered!

I did squeal slightly as I came face to face with a giant arachnid!

Thankfully he had departed this world already!

And so to the booty inside! My, what a truly 80’s set of albums!

There were singles too!

And for you Eurovision enthusiasts, look what I found!

There were children’s nursery rhyme records, and a mini top of the pops album which we used to dance around to too!

My Pops loved Kaoma and Lambada! He bought this himself!

One day at school we had a second hand sale and I was so proud to buy my first single, New Edition’s Candy Rain… imagine my surprise and disappointment (Sorry God!) when out came a Hindu prayer instead!

And now I know where my love of Disco stemmed from!

I even unearthed a ‘Listen and read along’ Lady and the Tramp from Walt Disney!

This by no means exhausts what I found. There were loads of religious Records, and Hindi and Punjabi soundtracks too!

It was truly a trip down memory lane!!!

    A marvellous unearthing of some vinyl classics – I only have a few vinyl records now (recently purchased for me by Jane) and I lost a lot of ‘gems’ a long time ago – it was good to see yours – G:)

    Having a husband who is a major vinyl collector, I called him in to see your collection. He says several of those are in his words, “very collecible” and probably pretty valuable. He’d never seen the Beach Boys compilation with other people and enjoyed seeing that. It’s great that you appreciate these old things as in this world of simple living, so many go into the trash or get scratched and unplayable. Enjoy.

    Wicked awesomesauce! I’m so jealous of your stash! I had tons of vinyl from my grandmother, father, and my own that I hauled around with me in the early years of my marriage. Unfortunately, they were lost during a move in the early 2000s. pout

    One of my favorites was a Nik Kershaw single of the 80s wonder “Wouldn’t it be Good” that I bought during a high school trip to Paris.

    Oh, and I squealed a bit too when I saw your eight legged “friend” – lol!

    Wow, what an amazing collection!! So many memories there, music is so nostalgic! The only record I ever remember playing was the Monkees in my Nan’s house 🙂

    Oh what a treasure trove you uncovered Sis. I love a bit of Cliff and Elvis, and Bowie, and Madonna….the list goes on! Thanks for this lovely trip down memory lane! 🙂

    I LOVE this. I love me some vinyl. Your Mum’s collection is quite frankly AWESOME. And your marvellous 80s/90s collection is just perfect. We have a lot of the same stuff. Brilliant.

    How cool! (except the giant spidey!) That’sounds so vintage and nostalgic.Oh man! Kylie! You cant find them these days.
    I remember seeing Kiss, Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd from my dad’s collection when I was kid. He have them away… If I had known!

    So fun to have saved all of that vinyl, and the stereo ! They are making a comeback, I really miss the art of the album cover. And…we never put our turntable away.

    Oh, how cool, sis! I have a whole load of records too as you can imagine. At least 20 to 25 only MJ and Jackson Five. The soundtrack of Rocky 4 is a red record and the cover of MJ’s Bad is the record itself…. if you know what I mean. They were so cool!

    Sorry, but your mom’s Bowie album is the best of the lot 😉 (I do have a lot of 80s vinyl, but I still like 70s Bowie.)
