Last Night … (Clone Machine Required – Read On For Details!)

Oh man, the tiredness (sorry to keep mentioning it, but it’s a constant companion at the moment!) last night culminated in another headache. That is the fourth Monday in a row where I have had to pop pills. I may need to rechristen my Mondays to Migraine Mondays!

Still, I had been looking forward to the evening.

After a busy day where all the classes got to meet their new teachers for the next academic year, and any surprises regarding staff movement were unveiled, we were to be heading to Lil Man’s school as he had been selected to participate in the school’s Sports Presentation evening!

It was a large, stuffy hall we were packed into, and after introductions, there was a motivational talk from a former pupil, who is now a business man.

All well and good, using language that the kids understood (including a couple of bad language slip ups, and referring to snogging!) until he showed his presentation on the projector and there were… SPELLING MISTAKES and MISQUOTED QUOTES!

I’m sorry but the writer in me got het up straight away! I wanted to go and edit his presentation! And the teacher in me wanted to get a red pen!!!

The Achievement Formular! Formula!!!!!

I wondered if the Head Teacher was cringing as much as I was!

But no matter, the kids thought it was great!

And then the awards started…

It was a loooooooong night, as they mentioned every team they had and all participants got a certificate, but certain pupils were named and rewarded with a mention for player of the year/most improved etc!

Lil Princess was getting bored… and thirsty! She took several loo breaks, and stated that she now knew what dehydration felt like (guilt trip inducing comments all night as we hadn’t brought a bottle of water!). She lolled around over mummy and daddy all evening in the sticky hall…was not fun. My headache was emerging and tempers were fraying!

After pretty much every team had been mentioned, in EVERY year group, and the presentation had gone on an hour longer than stated, finally cricket was mentioned!

And we came away as very proud parents with an extremely happy Lil Man.

He got his participation certificate and was named Wicket Taker of the Year and Player of the Year!

The Cricket Team getting their certificates!

Thing is, by then I was suffering from a pounding headache, and just wanted bed!

We all crashed out early last night!

Oh and did you say you wanted to hear what my job has in store for me next year?

I’ll still be working with the Early Years, but instead of restricting me to the Nursery 3-4 year olds, I will be being spread, like jam, across the whole foundation stage, so two days as a Reception teacher (4-5 year olds) and three days with my Nursery babies (3-4 year olds).

On top of this change, I will have joint responsibility for the Eco Team of kids we nominate in school, Healthy Schools, PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) and the School Council! There are three of us who will oversee all that  but my special interest will be in the School Council!

AND – yes there’s more – I have been chosen to be part of the Board of Governors as of September too!!!!

So, new responsibilities, on top of being basic teacher, wife, mummy, daughter, daughter-in-law, friend, writer/blogger….

Did I say I was busy?

I believe I may need to really find a clone machine over the holidays!

hehehe when i first saw the image (Achievement Formular) I thought this was another British thing, like the funny way of saying schedule. Who knows… maybe with persistence it could become a new thing? 😉

I get migraines too so I feel your pain! Kudos to you for staying until the end. When I get a migraine, I have to lie down and sleep after taking medication. I can’t function. You’re a strong woman, that’s for sure!

Except for the headache, this sounds amazing! Awards and new responsibilities. I love reading posts from my teacher friends abroad. We organize schools a bit differently here in the US, so I feel like I’m getting an education on education when I read about how things work. I do hope you continue to carve time out for your creative writing–I know it’s a passion of yours and with everything going on it can be tough to remember to put this passion close to the front of the line. Go you!

They do say if you want something doing then ask a busy woman haha! Congrats on the new positions, Ritu and HUGE congrats to your son for his great achievements. I only have my daughter left at school now (year 11 so only a year left whoop whoop) and I remember each and every parent assembly, award ceremony, and various other pack-you-in-the-hall situations. Ah, the joys of parenthood 😉

Sounds like your kids will have you sitting through lots of future awards ceremonies with the achievements they are gleaning, Ritu, so be prepared. Your life is full and I have no doubt you’ll keep everything balanced, with a few headaches forcing you to take a rest! 7

That was always my bug bear as a parent with younglings…”Why am I STILL here?” The inside the head question looking round at bored children while the chair of governors went on and on. Possibly time stretch, like the school clock that seems to go backwards when you’re hot and bothered, it’s sunny and you want to be somewhere else!!!

Gosh, so get that editor mind too; sign of the above, you start looking at stuff more in depth lol

Super post Ritu and…aren’t you supposed to be at a wedding 😉

Enjoy your lovely six week holiday and rest up! I’ve been tired and headachy this week as well, lots going on and the humidity doesn’t help. If you find a clone machine let me know, I would use it so my clone can go to work and I can sleep 😊

Oh I am dreading the time little one joins school. I hear these stories all the time about parent participation 😬 I am an unenthusiastic mother when it comes to such activities I don’t know how I will fare. All these additional responsibilities phew! Being a mom is really a tough job 🙄

Haha, Ritu how on earth did you managed to get yourself talked into becoming a school governor! I used to be the clerk to the GB at my primary school. It was a massive undertaking and I soon realised that trying to do a full time job plus what turned into a part time job was just too much – and the late nights after a full day at work was just impossible!

Hope the headaches will improve after this week is over. I sympathise with the sports presentation. We do them too. The hall is always too hot and the chairs too uncomfortable and they go on and on and on…..

My goodness Sis, you have got a lot going on when you go back to school. I really don’t know how you do it. I certainly have had to let my blog slide a little which really hurts me actually as I am so proud of it.
i know what you mean about bad grammar and spelling mistakes, I have seen quite a few already at Uni!!

Oh Ritu, your life sounds like too busy for your health. Remember to never use more than 90% of your energy and abundance to avoid going down with stress for serious and please listen, I have been there.
Another thing as might be able to help you are meditation, just a little every day might help.

Oh no, how can you handle all these things? They are way too heavy for you carry. I think you need to just run away, disappear, or go to the moon by yourself for awhile, or stay as long as you want until you miss the earth, then come back!

I hope your migraines decide to give you a break – with all you will be dealing with you are going to need a clear and pain-free head! Congrats to your son and kudos to his proud parents for making it through the l-o-n-g awards nite. Speaking of nite – Tink and I are off to bed at almost 3AM in Cincinnati.
