Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “vol.” Find a word with “vol” in it, and use it in your post. Have fun!
Volume – My hair has far too much volume at the moment. I got shorter layers cut into it in the holidays, and now, being naturally curly, it decides to do some wonderful things at night, so when I wake up, I look like I’ve been dragged through the hair backwards!
And the thing is, I don’t wash my hair every day. It’s something I’ve never done. With all the Indian superstitions regarding girls and hair washing, I’d never get a chance, if I believed them all! If I was to wash it every day, instead of the twice a week I have grown accustomed to, then the Bed head would be a thing of the past!
I was told as a child, to never wash my hair on a Thursday as I only have the one brother, and it would be bad luck for him.
Then when I got married a few other days were added to the mix, as my Mother In Law is quite the believer!
So Tuesdays and Saturdays went out of the window too, and I don’t even know why!
What’s even sillier?
Sikhs aren’t supposed to believe in superstitions!
But to be honest, my hair isn’t greasy, and I can’t be floofed with washing and drying every day. It gets cold in the winter too, and Hat head is no lesser evil than Bed head! Letting your wet hair dry under a woolly hat makes for an interesting look, believe me!
I’m grateful for my voluminous locks, to be honest. Many pay a lot of money for curls, yet God graced me with mine from the moment I was born!
So, do you know why I can’t wash my hair on a Tuesday or a Saturday? Or do you have your own hairwashing superstitions you can add to these?

The only one I know of is not to have a shower when there’s a thunderstorm outside. I have no idea if that’s science-based or old wives-based. 😛

Since I haven’t heard of a lot of people being electrocuted in the shower, I’m guessing it’s probably more superstition than anything. I’ve also heard you shouldn’t wash the dishes when there’s a thunderstorm. …that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it. 😉

Tuesday : There are many stories about hair wash which is why, washing hair is prohibited on Tuesdays. It is more applicable on those who are affected by Mars (Mangal). So, to calm down the effects of heavy Mangal, people do not wash their hair on Tuesdays.
Saturday: There are mixed Hindu myths on Saturday hair wash. In Hinduism, some believe that washing your hair on Saturday is good as it helps bring down the effect of Sade Sati, there are many who think that washing hair on Saturday can anger Shani Dev.

I find it all very interesting. My eldest once had dreadlocks, yes dreadlocks, red hair and long. He had them for a couple of years and he hardly ever washed his hair. After a while his hair was glorious and didn’t smell. Years later he has normal healthy hair. He washes it now! . He he keeps it very smart now. 🤗

Those are interesting superstitions! I can’t really think of any I follow though I’m positive I must. Oh, and you’re lucky to have volume…I have curly hair yet still manage to have fine hair, too.

The only superstition I can add is that I get a cold if I get out with wet hair, weather, season or day has nothing to with it. Just my Granny’s obsession with keeping us healthy.

Having so little hair I can dry it with a brisk wipe of a towel, I can’t relate. However, I am picturing an inverted mushroom image as you pull your wooly cap off your freshly washed hair. Thanks for the smile.

I used to wash my hair every day, even when it was at its longest. My ex husband also believed that after enjoying a bit of rumpy-pumpy you should wash completely from top to bottom including washing your hair, even if it had just been washed!!!
I tend to wash my hair every two days now, in the cooler weather, but still mostly every day when it is hot.
I don’t know where your superstitions come from but I can understand why you wouldn’t want to risk anything bad happening if you didn’t comply! 🙂

So you never wash your hair on Tuesdays and Saturdays? Interesting superstition. I don’t think I can be restricted by that. I have naturally wavy hair. When my hair doesn’t look good, I wash and straighten it as I dry my hair. That means I wash my hair every 2 or 3 days. But I remember the no washing when menstruating when I was young. I was told I would have a headache.

Well, I can see that once to are used to it, you just do it automatically without doubting it. Just as washing your hair on Monday and Friday, so you don’t have to think about that on Tuesday and Saturday!

We four girls were told strictly by Mother… ‘Never wash your hair, stand barefoot on a cold floor or BATH? When mensturating. What! Was that all about? I fear we must have stank like ten day old crab cakes … We were also not allowed to go near boys during this time. Whispers because they’d know… thinks i don’t think we’d have looked appealing with dirty hair and wearing terrified looks when ever a boy was about, not forgetting smelling bad.

Lol! And the thing is when they’re in your head, even if you don’t believe them, you feel bad breaking them and somehow end up passing them on to your kids. Just in case! (Hopefully not the no washing whilst menstruating one though! ) 😉😁

I did try and read about them a little as I wrote this. Some come from Hindu beliefs. One thought was that because women had enough to do, these compulsory days off washing hair was meant to lessen their load!
