Dark Mornings

As Autumn bows her weary head
Over her shoulder does Winter peek
Dark mornings call for you to lay in bed
The day outside looks bleak

The children fight to open their eyes
Surely it’s the middle of the night?
Households filled with cries and whys
Sleep won’t give up the fight

But don’t fret, it wont be long
Until our clocks fall back
And your alarm won’t feel like a gong
Bodies won’t be out of whack

Ritu 2017

Written for all those currently struggling to rouse their kids as the dark mornings are so deceptive… and they cause chaos with morning routines!!!

Being as I go to bed around 3-4AM, Dark Mornings are a blessing to me. The sun comes in my East window except late in the fall and winter when the sun is far enough over to miss it.
I can remember, though, having problems waking up.
When I worked 3rd shift, in the winter, I would often leave for work in the dark and come home in the dark, also. Did this when teaching, too.

It’s coming to that time where it feels like I’m leaving in the dark… once the clocks change I will definitely be coming home in the dark though!

Clocks should not change anymore. We really don’t need that.

There are so many arguments for and against, but surely it’s better to have darker mornings then the evenings lighter, so when the majority are up and about, they have longer to get things done. I know elderly folk who become stuck at home for read of venturing out in the darker evenings…

Dark mornings are not fun. I have to tell myself it’s not night but morning.
Myself then say, but it’s dark outside, it can’t be day already. That conversation goes on for a while until I realize it actually is morning and time to get up 🙂

This is fab! I’ve always been envious of those who can create poems like this – I can barely handle a limerick! I am quite partial to ‘There was a young woman from Ealing’ one from Bridget Jones haha!

Please enjoy Ritu’s “Dark Morning”. The ones where you swear it’s the middle of the night!

Love it. It’s not just children that struggle with the change. I hate getting up on those dark mornings when your bed and blankets are so warm!

Loved this wonderful depiction of late sunrise and it’s effect on us. I read your post and the comments and I am so jealous! It seems I’m always waking up in the backside of the night and my bed is Kicking me out! So elegantly stated!

Absolutely! I need a strong will to get out of my bed even otherwise – this will be worse!

It definitely is more of an effort to get up on the dreary, dark morning 🙂
