One-Liner Wednesday – #1LinerWeds – Conditioning?

“When it’s my birthday, only children with faces like mine can come” – 3 Year Old School Child

This was a slightly worrying statement made by a three-year-old child in school… He wasn’t talking about them having to be young and his age, or cute, but when he said f”aces like mine”, he went on to add “no brown faces.”

If that isn’t conditioning, then what is? Surely at three, children shouldn’t even really be aware of differences like that in away? Of course most of them can describe themselves and others by colour, but to put such a negative spin on skin colour at three… Me no likey…

And yet he is my friend… Brown face… er, hello?

Sad, isn’t it. All you can say is, “Yes, and you have a wonderful face.”

Oh, Ritu. This is when ‘the bell rings’ that you need to step in and do something. I have had this happen, too. Really sad at three-years-old. Yes, it is learned behavior. I’ve had success with all the children putting their arm into a circle, and looking at all the different colors. No two are alike. That is a concrete concept and makes an impact. Just a thought that might help, beyond reading books. If my class was older, I could tell them about how it was in the south… I have come light years. But, that’s for older children.

I have not seen that happen with such young children, Ritu. They always seem so oblivious to sex, colour and everything else at that age. I know that teenagers often have a thing about wanting to all be the same but it is a great shame at 3 years old.

We know that this is not coming from the child…. shocking how rooted such racial attitudes still are!

Sad when kids that age are already racially influenced.

Wow, I don’t even know what to say to this…and about his parents for teaching him bigotry at age three. So unacceptable…

That is so sad. I’m guessing that condition was set out by the alleged adults in that child’s life. #justSad

I know, the other day here in Spain a father smacked his daughter a 16 year old for partying too much she was getting out of control so his father just gave her a smack and guess what… the daughter tells the police and the poor man gets thrown in jail for 7 months, that for me is the law upside down. And a braking of the fabric of society, next it will be that if you call your son or daughter say you did something stupid and the father says “what are you dumb?” you go to jail for mentally abusing the kid.

Wow. Children are usually color blind, unless they “learn” from others around them. So sad.

I would also be worried, if I heard such a statement from such a young kid, Ritu 🙂
