A Little Grammarly Advice – Please!

For those of you that use Grammarly, are any of you Premium subscribers?

I have a pretty good offer for the year which has been sent to me but I don’t know if it is worth it.

I’d appreciate some feedback from those of you that have tried it/use it regularly, please!

I used the premium version of Grammarly for quite some time and it suits me fine, Ritu. However, it does occasionally suggest words that do not fit e.g. ‘Your’ instead of ‘You’re’. It’s great for highlighting missing commas or when they are not needed and I love when it suggests new words for ones that I’ve used a lot.

I’ve just signed up for the free version of Pro Writing Aid after reading some of the comments.

I use https://prowritingaid.com/. It does much the same thing as Grammarly and is a lot less expensive for the premium version.

    Hi Ritu,
Perhaps I’m like you. I have been trying editorial software trying to see which one is best. I have Grammarly the free version and use it online. I’ve tried using it also for editing my manuscript. There was another post that was reblogged by the Story Reading Ape reviewing several editing software. Someone asked the author to recommend one and she said if she had to pick one she would go with ProWritingAid. I downloaded and tried the free version and thought it was superior to Grammarly. I upgraded for a year to test it out. I’ve used it for about a week. I understand the PC version is superior to the MAC because it will integrate with Word. With the MAC you have the choice of using it from the Cloud or desktop. Even with the desktop version, when you save the file, it changes your original Word file with the edited changes. I also think for the money, ProWritingAid is more for ‘bang for your buck’. Just my opinion.

HI, I use it and find it to be helpful for word choices but some of the things it recommends are a little strange. For example, one day it said you should use odd articles like a apple? So I give it mixed reviews.

I find premium valuable to a degree. It has found mistakes in typing, pointed out repeating words, etc. it is worth it for that. I have to run text through it and enter the changes manually because it loses my formatting. We often have comma usage disagreements. Sometimes I accept their suggestions but more often I don’t. Hope that helps.

I used it when writing a book and found it very helpful but dropped it after I was finished. Hope this helps.

I tried using Grammarly, but when I go back to my word processor (Nisus Writer Pro), all of my formatting is gone. I lose italics and my paragraphs are all screwy. Does it work better with Word?

Grammarly has been great with word… so far.
I’m trialling ProWritingTool now too. The reports I’ve run have been pretty interesting so far. I can see it helping me to cut out a lot of unnecessary wordage once I finish my WIP!

Hi Ritu. I subscribed to the premium Grammarly for a year to check it out and see if it was worth it. What I found was the add-ons were not mind-blowing game-changers, and I’ll cancel after the year is up. The services that come with the free version are the most valuable by far. Hope that helps. 🙂

Not sure if this will help you or not, but a few years ago I had Grammarly Premium. It had a few extra features that were better than in the free version, but I switched to Pro-WrittingAid and overall prefer it.

I have the premium version now that I have gone back to Uni!! It works very well in Word but I can never get it to work on Chrome unless I copy and paste onto the Editor! I had a good deal on it, that is why I decided to go for it 🙂

Yes, Ritu, I have Grammarly and use it quite often. I like it, but just don’t see the point in going to a Premimun version. What I have is just fine for me. It works well. The reason I have it is that my spelling for words is sometimes not all that great! English was not one of my favorite subjects in HS. On top of that I thought it should be right that what I print is the way it should be.
    Regards,
    Les

Les I agree. I love the free version, but I wonder if I am missing a trick by not trying the Premium! But it is expensive usually, so I wanted to test the waters with my fellow bloggers!

I nearly have on two occasions but the husband put me off, we would have paid for the app had it been a one off payment.
