Fickle Nickle!

This weekend, after realising that I am allergic to my Pandora bracelet, Hubby Dearest worked really had to arrange for an exchange for one of their (more expensive) Rose Gold ones!

This nickle allergy!

Honestly, I hate having lots of money spent on me, I don’t need expensive things! But my body obviously has other ideas!

And something else I don’t like, is exchanging gifts, as I feel that what was chosen for me has such sentimental value, but in order to actually wear the item, it had to be changed!

Still, after a whole load of phone calls and emails, and explaining to Pandora that if we exchanged, we would end up spending more, as the Rose Gold is a more expensive bracelet to furnish with charms in the future, we ended up at the shops on Sunday to change it over!

And the whole allergy experience ended up as a poem!

I am quite a simple person
I don’t have expensive tastes
But because of reactions and allergies
I can’t be bought things in haste

Would you believe a little metal
That goes by the name of Nickle
Can cause such a commotion!
My body, oh so fickle!

Now my birthday’s a great example
Of my body’s annoying habit
Having reactions to gifts
First time was my Fitbit!

Religiously I wore it
Counting steps as I waled, in a flash
But after a few weeks of wearing
I came out in a terrible rash!

We exchanged it for another
More expensive, and rash-proof, we thought
But alas the same thing happened
And so we returned what we bought!

this year my Hubby gifter me
With a bracelet of the Pandora sort
But guess what? Allergic!
It contains Nickle – Who’da thought?!

But after much disctussion
Phone calls and emails galore
I’m now the owner of a rose gold one
And suffer rashes no more!

Loved this post born out of reality and a problem! The motto in our house is “It’s Always Something”! Ha! Glad you were able to resolve it all. You are lucky you have a hubby that loves you to have nice things!

I could have been happy with a plain old wedding band but my darling wife insisted she wanted me to wear a really nice one with some diamonds in it! You can’t say no to that! She knew what she was doing! Every time I look at my ring it reminds me how much I love her!!! Now you will feel the same about your Rose Gold bracelet and your Hubby!

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!!!
    Chuck

Funny poem Ritu. I’m the same I cant wear very cheap jewellery. I got a lovely perfume one year, not a cheap one, and I was allergic to it. I’ve no idea why this one because I can wear any other perfume I’ve ever owned. Yes, I also prefer not to change gifts when possible but sometimes it has to be done. Like in your case or if clothing doesn’t fit etc.

What an awful experience, Ritu. You must have been so torn to have to return a special gift. Your poem is great!

      Thank you Jennie!
I was torn, but then I have received something beautiful to replace it…
      I am so sentimental though!
When we got married, my mother in law wanted to buy a great big 24ct gold Indian jewellery set, the sort of thing that would sit in a bank for ever… as part of my wedding gift. I said no, just a couple of small wearable pieces would be good. She said I could just return it after and choose what I want from the value of the original gift but I was horrified!
IF I was given a gift at my wedding, I would want to keep it to share with my children as they grow up, and I’d want it to be something that has a story, and emotional value attached!
I think she wanted something flashy to ‘show’ the family but thankfully I got her to understand that it is the feeling and love attached to the gift, and not the size that matters!

I completely understand and feel the same way. My mother was all about practicality, too. And, she cared (more) about appearances. Loved her dearly, but never could get her to fully understand that love means more than size. I think that sums up why we are teachers of youngsters!

Very pretty! I’m glad you’re spared the rashes. I used to be like that, and seem to have built up a tolerance of sorts. I can wear costume jewelry for short periods of time now. My wee one was/is the same.
    Also, gold ❤

I’m glad that worked out and the exchange in this case doesn’t take away the sentimental value.

Aww, my allergies are even more irrational. Even I don’t like money spent on me and expensive things so I totally feel you but now that you have rose gold, enjoy and feel good about it.

Honestly, I thought, that Pandora’s only had Sterling Silver 925 in their bracelets. If so, they should be without nickel.
While we don’t have our own silver mine, we need to buy from shops or producers to create jewelry. I do ask to secure my customers, if the silver contain either nickel or lead, because both can lead to allergies. Unfortunately, not all sellers are honest and as a small producer, I can’t afford tools for checking the truth, but need to believe, what they say, unless I can prove in one or another way.
Good to hear, that you don’t have problems with allergy any longer, Ritu.

Apparently there is a chance of a very small amount in it and I appear to be very sensitive to it! My Pops is the same, as is my daughter too!
Thankfully though, it is all sorted!
