So, while I wait for my feedback from my Alpha readers, I need to do something to keep me from gnawing my nails to a set of stubs… (need good nails for the Bash!) … so that means reading!

And I have plenty to keep me busy.

There are at least fifty books sitting on my Kindle waiting for me to read them, and a couple of real books on my shelf too.

I wish I had the space to actually buy more physical books.

Before we had to give up the study so the kids could have their own bedrooms, I had two bookshelves heaving with my favourite books, and there was a third filled with children’s books.

I had to really force myself to sort through the existing books I had, working out which ones to keep, and which ones to give away… a painful task.

But I ended up with a bookshelf in both of the kids’ rooms, with their favourite children’s books on them, and one shelf left downstairs in our now dining room cum study.

This has to house my work books as well as any others I finally decided I couldn’t part with.

But it leaves no space at all for new books… boo hoo!

This is where I thank God, and Amazon, for my Kindle Paperwhite! It goes with me almost everywhere, and I love that I can have a whole library with me at any time.

Yes, I hear you diehard bookworms. A real book feels different in the hand, and you’re right. There is no better feeling than holding that book, and being able to see the pages lessen as you read towards the end. But at least I have my Kindle progress percentage to kinda get the feel!

And what do I have to keep me busy?

Quite an eclectic mix of books actually, from Shelley Wilson’s self-help book to Shame Travels, by Jasvinder Sanghera. There are books by Judith Barrow, and Mary Smith, Helen Jones and Barb Taub. I have Lucy Brazier and Christoph Fischer too.

Comedy, YA fiction, memoirs, information books, anthologies and poetry books too. And a heck of a lot more Indie Authors there!

I have downloaded recommendations made by many bloggers including my favourite Blonde, Lucy!

If you’ve had a promotion on your book, and it tickled my fancy, it’s on my Kindle too!

Soooo many books to keep me going!

So, which first?

Well, I tend to go to the bottom of my pile, to find the oldest book on there, and read that, unless something has appeared on there that I simply can’t wait to read.

This time it is Sathnam Sanghera’s Marriage Material…

I read his book, The Boy With A Topknot with fascination, as it was about a young Sikh boy born and brought up in Wolverhampton, and it dealt with the subject of mental health within the Sikh Community, and how issues were always swept under the carpet.

Can I be honest? It was… okay. There had been such excitement about the book, and it was even made into a BBC Drama, but I think it ended up a bit self-involved… It would have got a Ritu-rated ⭐⭐⭐.

Still, as I was reading it, I downloaded this other one of his… hope it is a better read!

And I am solidly working on my GoodReads challenge too!

    I’m a book person. I did dally with a kindle but it just didn’t feel the same! NowI’ve found a wonderful way of reading anything. I spend a lot of time in the chemo unit at Ipswich Hospital and they have a book loan shelf and I’ve decided I’m going to read them all! Then I discovererd that the place I attend for oxygen therapy also has a loan system. Then I went to the corner shop near home and found one there as well. The only problem I have now is remembering which book came from which place!

    It’s an excellent way of reading books that you wouldn’t normally pick up. I haven’t chosen a bad one yet!

      Definitely a great way to discover new books!
      I have use a loan system at a couple of hotels we have stayed at on holidays in the past, when I finished my books… that’s why my Kindle is so good, I always have plenty to read on there!

    I could not live with out my ereader. I only by reference books now in the flesh (or in the paper 😉 ) I read approximately 3 books a week so that is a lot of book shelf I am saving with my Kobo.

    I’ve got at least 20 books on the shelf waiting for me also. i’d love to take a month off and do nothing but lounge in the sun and read. How awesome would that be?

    First, I love what an avid reader (or aspirational reader) you are. Having so many books ready for you says much about your enthusiasm. And i also must say I appreciate that you didn’t LOVE The Boy With the Topknot. It’s important to read books with a lot of hype with a critical eye sometimes. But, the fact that you’re picking up another book by the same author sounds exactly like you: always ready to give someone a second chance.

    I haven’t properly read anything in ages, I need to get myself sorted with glasses, which has kept me from my needlework too. Luckily the weeds on the allotment are big enough that I can see them without squinting, so I have plenty to keep me busy xxx

    I too have a Kindle because I read so much and can carry a library around with me. Still love a good paperback though! I am up to 14 books out of 30 for my reading challenge.

    I honestly admire you for still finding time for reading. I need to make efforts to find time for writing… lol. But I will make it an effort this summer to make more time for reading again. I have so many wonderful books … then again, I have a WIP too which waits to be translated… lol… here we go again… haha!

    I agree that there is nothing like a real book, especially when it’s one you’ve written. Holding it in your hands is a great feeling. If it weren’t for my Kindle, however, I wouldn’t be able to take multiple books with me when I travel. Also, as I progress through a certain age, the ability to make the font bigger is very valuable.

    I am with you 🙂 Kindle is truly a savior 🙂 I too struggle with space issues with my books, hence switched to kindle 🙂 Keep reading 🙂

    I have tried Kindle for computers and also on my tablet. I really didn’t enjoy the tablet for much other than emergencies and on the computer it soon became difficult sitting there reading after hours there doing my mail and anything else. I’ve stuck with actual books where I had a choice and always have at least one in hand so I don’t get caught without something. Car boots are a great way to get books to read which you can’t really do on a Kindle. I promised the first time I find one of my books on a car boot I’m going to read it.

      Aha, the best thing with my kindle is it has a matte screen, so it looks like a book page, but there is a back light so I can read ANYWHERE! I can lay down, sit in an armchair, read standing up, one handed, and don’t need to worry about keeping pages open, and the font size can be adjusted to suit each individual.
      I tried the iBooks on my iPad once, but I didn’t like the glare on the screen.

    You make me LOL, and YES YES YES I looooooove my Kindle. I love a physical book but I’ve become very lazy using my Kindle, I can hold it propping my arm up on a pillow and flip the pages with my thumb, so much easier, and I make the font bigger so easy for me to see, and like you I take my Kindle everyplace and I have loads of books with me, so if I start reading one while waiting and I just can’t get into it, there are a hundred others I can chose.       Yes the convenience of the Kindle, and other eReaders is so great! I do love mine, but I just wish I could have more physical books!
      I’m like my mum. She ends up with hoards too!
