Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 176

img_00411

“Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilerating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather.”

John Ruskin

Thanks, Spidey!

Something to ponder upon, as we are experiencing a mini heatwave here in the UK. Some areas are getting repeated wildfires, the water is drying up. There is talk of hosepipe bans, and warning us to try not to have a bath, but shower instead – there may be a water shortage. And oh, the heat! Sleepless nights, afternoons that really require siestas, because it’s too hot, but we can’t because we have to work…

A few short weeks ago we were lamenting the cold winds, previous to that the one week of snow was just too much for us. And rain. Well, better not talk about the rain and Britain! It’s always around the corner, but never at the right time for us.

There is always someone complaining about the weather, but reading the quote above made me think. It’s like that old adage; Every cloud has a silver lining.

There is something positive to be taken from all the weather we experience, and though heat is not my best friend, generally the world is easier to deal with when it’s sunny. It’ll cool down soon enough, then we’ll start getting tetchy with the lower temperatures!

So, before you begin to moan about the heat, think of all it gives us, and relish our British Indian summer, for as long as it lasts!

Happy Sunday!

Here on the Texas Gulf Coast, we have had 100 degree afternoons, followed by flooding and thunderstorms on July fourth and thunderstorms and 90-100% humidity ever since. Today is July 8. Need a Turkish Steam bath? Come visit me!

We say in Ohio, if you don’t like the weather, wait 10 minutes, it will be different. Especially in tornado season! One minute it’s cloudy, then dark clouds, then rain, hail, strong winds, then sirens going off and heading to our safe place. Then thankfully, it passes. Scary season for me, but I’ve lived here all my life and won’t move unless it’s to Hawaii. 😂 Thanks for a great quote.

Some people are basically complaining and some basically find something good in everything. What can we do? I am glad you belong to the second part, sis! We are having gorgeous hot weather here too but it really makes me think that the UK experiences such a drought.

Cold is to South Africa as heat is to Britain, Ritu. We have a cold front coming and everyone is freaking out – our houses are not designed for cold and our heating is very poor.

I don’t like heat and am glad to live in a place where AC is everywhere. I’m sorry you need a siesta, oh you must go home exhausted from the work and the heat! And then to be sleepless due to heat. Ugh, sounds miserable.
And here I’d thought English summers were right up my alley…
Now I’m wondering how hot it is there.

It’s absolutely scorching here but we love it. The sounds of crickets scraping their hairy legs together and something resembling a rattle is chirruping in the long grass – all of it reminding me of my childhood under the African sun! I hope it lasts a bit longer before those cool winds slide in under our bronzed skin and send shivers down our spines.

    Have a great day, Ritu.

People are moaning about the heat? Can’t believe that…moaning about blue sky?

My partner is currently in Somerset, I swear it must be the wettest place in the UK, but even there, it’s 30deg temps at the moment.

Oh the sleepless nights. My body is confused by this warm weather, BUT I’m not complaining! I’m enjoying it while it lasts. It’s hard to believe we had all that icy and snowy weather not that long ago. And you’re right, there’s a positive in all kinds of weather.

I think either you or Ruskin made up a word in that quote.

I’m enjoying the beauty of a cloudless sky and it’s true that everything feels better when the sun is out, but the vegetables in my garden are suffering a little.
