“Where we love is home – home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts.”
Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.
Thanks, Spidey.
Is it just me, or do others instinctively think of being at their parents’ house as being ‘home‘?
I may be forty+, married with a Hubby Dearest, children and pets of our own, with a roof over our head that is our home, but nothing can beat the feeling of going ‘home‘.
This building I visit, the house that Pops and Mum live in now, has never been the place I grew up in. In fact, they bought it shortly before I became a mother myself.
Yet it is ‘home‘.
Because of the people who live here, the love they have showered upon my brother and me, and the memories they created for us.
Don’t get me wrong, my own little home is a very special place, and when I am back in my normal life, there is nothing better than pottering around in my home.
But coming ‘home‘ is just the best feeling ever ❤
Which place feels like ‘home‘ to you?
Have a peaceful Sunday Peeps ❤

From 1964-1998,when my father died, we always said, “We are going ‘home’ for Christmas.” I would say each summer, “I am going to visit my mother in Virginia” after that until 2001. Now with no one left, and the nieces moved to other places in Virginia, finally “home” is at our house here on the Texas Gulf Coast. It is a good feeling, and although we are only My Better Half, myself, and two cats, we have indeed found a sense of family and “home.”

Nooo. lol
Home is my home. Home was home, until I was 21 and my parents downsized the first time. That wasn’t home even when I lived there on weekends. Not long after I finished college, they downsized again, and that’s totally not home.
All the same, I’m glad you feel that way ❤

This is so true. I think my definition of home shifts depending on the day and what my heart needs in that moment.

Is it odd that I feel where I am now is home? I lived in my parents home for 24 years, but have been in my own home, with hubby and kiddies, pets, etc, for 33 years (just gave away my age lol). THIS is my home. And when I come back to it, no matter where I’ve been, I always say thank goodness, I’m home.

No… Not odd at a all. I get you. My small home with my hubby and kids is most definitely my home, but whenever I visit my parents, there is an overwhelming sense of home 💜

For sure it is not the place but the people who make it a “home”. That’s why I feel totally home at my sister’s place too.

A very good question, Ritu! Maybe my home is, where i get the possibilities to be myself, and to meet people which are friends. For me its not a location. Michael

If my parents were still living in the house I grew up in, I would feel that is home but since my dad passed away and my mom is living in an apartment, that doesn’t feel like home. Sometimes I want to go into the house I grew up in just to see it again because that still feels like home even though someone else is living there. I don’t though because a) that would be a little weird knocking on the door of a stranger and asking to see the inside of the house and b) I’m afraid that the changes they made would bother me.

I know my main home, where I did most of my growing up, where I married and left my childhood behind, has many memories.. but now, if I drive by, I feel fond memories flooding in, but it’s not home. Because my parents aren’t there. Where they live now, surrounded by all the objects I remember, with the stories they tell, that is home to me 😍

My mom really did a downsizing and gave away most of her things to us girls already so there is really very little in her apartment that reminds me of our childhood home.

Where I live now does feel like home. We’ve been here 35 years, raised both children here. My son wants to buy it from us because he sees it as home too.
Lovely post.
