Of Teen and Tweenage Angst #Poem

It’s a trying time in my household at the moment, filled with hormones and demands, mood swings and laughter. I can’t go into the details, but I can definitely pen a verse to get my own angst out!

Gone are the days when a parent
Simply battled with the Teens
These days we have a new breed
Calling themselves the Tweens!

Now with the Teens, it’s expected
Hormones raging through
But the trouble with these Tweens
Dear God, I wish I knew

It’s like ten is the new thirteen
And thirteen’s just as bad
Parenting’s never easy
But I don’t like this Tweenage fad!

I was prepared for seven years
Of total Teenage hell
But with these Tweens, they’ve added on
Another three years as well!

They stomp around in stereo
And fight at the drop of a hat
You cannot have a conversation
It’s just all rude backchat!

And if, perchance, things happen
To not go quite their way
You’ll get the silent treatment
Though they have so much to say

It flows in images and messages
On Social Media sites
Selfies, emojis LOL’s
To put the world to rights

Right now I live in a timebomb
Of tween and teenage tricks
What on earth will happen when I
Add menopause to the mix?

For teenagers everywhere I’ve made my own poem: Yes, we’ve got a lot of angst, so let me be franc, I say thanks. Thanks for this very true poem and before I get going, I’m leaving you still knowing, that we are still growing. I promise our anger isn’t at you, it’s something we teenagers just do. Once we become mom’s we’ll look at you, then at our own teenager misfit and wonder how you ever did it. Funny poem and just started my own blog to write all my teen angst 🙂

      Love your poetic thoughts!

      It’s true, it’s a phase
But you still get those days
      When you just can’t win
      The teen devil within
      Holds your child tight
      And despite all your might
      All you do is wrong
      That day feels long
      But you still know
      The time will go
And you’ll get your child back
      Once they’ve learned the knack
      Of coping with this life
Full of joy, and of strife!

      😀

This is hilarious, Ritu. Are girls worse as tweens than boys?

Wow! Sorry for your woes Ritu! You know, yesterday a certain lady friend was telling me about one of her two sons and she was saying exactly the same thing about the silent treatment. If he doesn’t have things his way, he just sulk and doesn’t talk to anyone. You can’t even prepare him for bed.

Priceless post! My friend has a daughter who just turned ten, and the mother gave her a “Double Digits” BD party. Our preacher once told us that something happens to little girls when they turn ten. At that point they know “everything in the world” and” hold all parental opinions in total contempt.”

I think if you asked my mom at what age I was the biggest pain in the butt, she’d probably say the 11-13 range was the toughest. I’m a little hazy on all the details, but I’m pretty sure we fought ALL THE TIME and I was convinced that she was the crazy one. Now as a 30 year old and realizing how smart she is, I’m pretty sure that it was probably me. XD But hold on to the hope that when they’re grown, they’ll finally see that their mom is actually pretty cool. Hang on until then though! 😉

Thank heaven the only time I have to deal with this is the grandchildren and they go back to their parents. I see the struggles there, but not my problem LOL!

It is a tough time you are in and still heading towards. But once the first one passed the puberty it is all going better. I have been there three times. The third one is about to leave the difficult time and I can say, they are the proverbial butterfly after their cocoon stage. Hang in there, sis!

Ha, I don’t envy you. I had 10 years between my first and second daughters so one was totally out of the teens before the other hit the tweens. The boy in the middle was so peaceful the whole time!

Boys and girls are so different!
Maybe she’s going into it early, and he’s just hitting official teendom, so they might both chillout at the same time??? I’m clutching at straws!!

Had this with foster kids, but at least I could give them back! As for the menopause, I thought I’d left all that behind then they put me on post cancer meds and gave me the hot flushes back in a box!
