Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 198

“Christmas is forever, not for just one day. For loving, sharing, giving, are not to put away.”

Norman Wesley Brookes

Well thank you Spidey for a festive thought there!

I’m not Christian, but I do love Christmas. I thoroughly enjoy the festivities, The feeling of joy and happiness that tends to emanate from most corners of the land.

There is that feeling of peace. An acceptance. You are more likely to see a smile from a stranger (unless you are both eyeing the last turkey in the store, when goodwill might not win!) rather than a grimace.

But wouldn’t it be wonderful if that was the way the world was at all time?

Sure, we pack away our Christmas decorations and stop playing the cheesy Christmas songs, but we can still be giving and loving, every day, can’t we?

So… tell me, what is your favourite part of the festive season, that you would want to keep all year round?

We are Christians, and the candlelight communion service on Christmas Eve is always memorable. And, I LOVE an excuse for giving gifts!

I am Christian, Ritu, but I am not a big believer in the structures of the Church. I have found a rather lovely Church but I only attend intermittently. I do know what you mean about Christmas thought, there just seems to be love in the air at this time of year.

So true, Ritu and Spidey! ❤ The Christmas spirit should be around all year long. I love the dessert and foods we eat during Christmas…cookies, cakes, pies, tamales. Lol. So much for Keto this month!

I always say, Christmas is not a season, it is a place in our hearts, a feeling we share. In fact, the Christmas spirit is the love we are and which connects all of us. During the Christmas season, we are more receptive for it and more open to sharing it. Whenever something bad happens in the world, that Christmas spirit shines through again.

I wish the togetherness would last all year round, like you wrote about with acceptance. There’s a feeling we’re brought together more, though I don’t like the stress and expectations that come with it that can make some people go the other way (instead of peaceful and uplifted, it’s snarly and angry). And the relaxing of ‘rules’ a bit, where we can ease up on things and enjoy them more.xx

Ritu – With your kind permission. This is from my book “Just Thinking”:

    “The Time of Year”

Christmas is coming so very soon.
What are you plans for this time?
What is your idea of good cheer?
    To eat and drink?
    Think of family and friends?
But… why only at this time of year?

    You’ll buy this and that.
    Perhaps “Thinking of You” cards,
    For people so very dear.
    You’ll share time together,
    And have many laughs
But… why only at this time of year?

The time of year for giving,
    To a local shelter perhaps?
Poverty and despair are so near.
Street kids, abused kids, exploited and used kids
    Maybe on your mind,
But… why only at this time of year?

    Poverty is year round.
    Abuse and despair the same.
What else do you need to hear?
You are so giving around now,
    And presumably willing,
But… why only at this time of year?

    You will celebrate this season
    Being generous and kind.
Maybe smile at strangers without fear,
But once the season has passed,
    Hopefully you will ask
“Why only at that time of year?”

This time of year, regardless of belief,
    Is a time for compassion and sharing;
    For revelations so crystal clear;
For knowing that you are able to help,
Perhaps only in a small way
But… why only at this time of year?

At this time of year… this year,
    Think… do you really care?
When you see desperation so near,
    Are you prepared to share?
Should it be just at Christmas time?
Why not throughout the whole year?

We have a local church mission that aligns itself with families below the poverty line, and supports/guides them over the following 12 months through to being self-sufficient. I have the ability, and the privilege, to sponsor a family every year. What greater gift could I possibly give myself? 🙂

I love everything about Christmas and yes those thoughts and feelings should be all year! My favourite thing is hard to pick but getting cards and letters from all over the world from friends and family is pretty special. Christmas songs is a close second though. Just makes me feel warm and fuzzy all over. Perhaps it is the memories they evoke.

I agree Ritu.. we should extend goodwill to all men and women all year round.. My favourite part of Christmas used to be decorating the tree.. now it is sitting watching my husband decorate the tree whilst I supervise with a glass in one hand.. ♥

Well, it’s shallow in comparison to your smiley cheer, but I love twinkly lights and I just don’t see why we can’t have them all over everything all the time! 😛
