#Blogmas2018 Ritu’s Blog Tips #21

Day 21

My muse, my tea my workstation!

Take a break

Now, I’m definitely one who needs to practice what she preaches, but taking a break is not a bad thing at all!

Sometimes your blog starts to bring you down, as you are convinced you aren’t writing engaging content, or inspiration is running dry.

There is no unwritten rule to say you can’t take a break.

Sometimes you need a few days, a week, a month even, to focus on other things, life, or just renew your passion for your blog, so you can come back  happier and ready to write!

It is time consuming to keep up with all the little duties that running a successful blog require.

And if you take a break, you need to remember that your readers will still be there when you come back!

If you have built your network successfully, they will be waiting for your return!

If you feel you can’t leave your blog ’empty’ for a certain period, remember there is that great tool called Schedule!

You can prewrite posts that will publish for you during your break, so there is fresh content still appearing.

But if you are feeling jaded, then seriously, take that break!

(I need to take my own advice in the new year, simply because my editing will not happen if I am constantly on here!!! Let’s see if I manage…!)

Great instruction! I do take breaks. I wish I could get back into my novel writing mode, but it just isn’t there atm. So, I keep writing whatever I can to see if that ignites me!
But, a break can be a great thing!

That is something we really have to learn. In the end, our work only benefits and so our fellow readers… see you later, sis. On a break for 2 weeks… haha!

We need to take a break here and there and not force anything. Stay refreshed in our imagination, creativity and brain power 💜

Good advice, Ritu. I would add that you need to be careful what subjects you cover in a post that is scheduled in advance. Local/world events can render some of those unpopular. I have had to make some last-minute changes to my schedule when things have gone off the rails.

Hi Ritu, I know the feeling, Us busy writers need a clone (and I’m retired…) BUT I’m writing another book and it’s difficult to concentrate on too many things…However, I’m taking Stephen King’s advice and writing a page a day (in 300, it should be finished,). I edit as I progress.. Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year Hugs xx.

I try and do the grammatical edits as I go, but now I’m rereading and getting the awful bits out and rearranging or writing New scenes!! Fun And games!
Did you say clone? Yes please!!!

Know this one well! I am blogging less than I used to due to the demands of a very demanding more than fulltime job. On top of that I’m planning on using my Christmas holidays to edit Book 2 Curse of Time. Excited to say I am making progress!

I have to confess that I’ve never felt the need for a break, but I do only post once a week on the main blog. I think your readers are only still there if you let them know that you’re taking a break.

Obviously if you are taking a planned break, most bloggers would say they were going, and that they would be back.
But sometimes something in life happens that means you disappear for a while that you cant control. n those times its amazing who will miss you and search you out, to find out if all is okay.
That is the beauty of your own blogisphere!

Amen to this!! I’m loving doing my Blog advent but I must admit to looking forward to a few days off before I crack on with my January theme. I find my social media to be more overwhelming than the blog but I guess they do go hand in hand. 🙂

You need a break. Line 3 one typo, line 4 another one. 😂

Hahahaha… I go through these thoughts every second week. I believe it’s the insecurity of losing out on the readers’ base and followers that puts on the maximum pressure and so does the quest to produce content worth their time and thoughts. Nonetheless, breaking away for rejenuvation and refuelling the ideas is inevitable. Also most importantly writing requires either complete peace or total chaos 😋.

      Well eactly!
Maybe it’s because as a blogger I have matured to realise my blog is me, and the readers I have are not just readers, but a lot of blog pals now, I know I can take a break… it’s whenever I want to!!!
But there are times when you really need to step away for a while, in some capacity, even if it is just cutting down!
