I’ve been doing a lot of dreaming over the last few years.
There are the dreams of a bigger, more organised house, the dreams of being able to jet off to wherever we fancy for holidays, the dreams of being able to see my nephews without the need for a flight, the dreams of becoming a writer…
Some dreams can come true just by time passing, some need a little effort, some need some initiative.
So, the holiday one… well, one day we’ll be able to have saved up enough that we can just swan off whenever…
The house one, Marie Kondo is helping me organise, and we are in the throes of deciding… extension or move?
Seeing my nephews… well, they are in a different country. It’s never going to be easy, but at least I can feel happy at the fact that we will see them in May, and I can finally cuddle my newest baby nephew, who will be two months off being a year old by then!
But the writer dream… well, that’s the one that is mine, and one that only I can push for.
So I have tried my hardest. That first book is written, it has been read by two, and is being read by a couple of others too. And I have entered it into a literary competition, and sent off my first agent submission… eek!
I’m not totally oblivious to the fact that there is a high chance that I shan’t get signed after just one submission, so I shall submit to more… but in case there is still nothing, I have been gathering quotes for professional edits and critiques… so if it happens, I am ready for the Indie adventure.
It’s not easy though. Going Indie can cost you a lot, so my next aim is to slowly fill my writer’s pot with any spare money I have, and I have even requested to Hubby Dearest that instead of presents for me, a donation to the pot would be the best gift!
And to improve my craft, I have started a writers course, to develop my art…
See. I am working on my dreams!

I have just scuttled a dream I thought I was ready to act on this weekend. We have not had a bookstore, new or used, in our little town in about six years. A friend had a used bookstore in a restored frame house for about four years, but she retired and we had to go to Houston or Pearland, near the freeway to even find a Barnes and Noble. When I retired from the university back in December, I began to “dream big” and thought I’d have a coffee shop/bookstore somewhere in town. A friend said she’d like to offer quilting classes if there was a “back bedroom.” Yesterday I called a realtor to make inquiries about a small house that had just been repaired and remodeled after Hurricane Harvey. The cost BLEW MY MIND. That’s one dream I’ll have to let go.

I do not have a big dream at the moment. I dream of a time when I will once again have said big dreams. Right now my focus is on enjoying these kids for the last few years 🙂
I think moving and extensions both have their ups and downs, so I wish you luck in deciding which is right for you and yours.

Great quote, sis, and very timely for me. With two jobs (day job and my practice), my blog, and last but not least my kids which I try to see and take care of as often as possible, I started a new project which occupies my whole weekends for a month now. Definitely hard work. I am developing my own skin care line… do I need to say more? Not only the testing and trying but also what has to be done in the administrative background … sweat, sweat, sweat but exciting too!

I love the quote. It took me three years to write my first book and 5 years to find a publisher. I now have 7 books published and one about to be. It can be done!

A writer’s course sounds great, Ritu. I am having Through the Nethergate professionally critiqued. I do have a small publisher but I like the developmental editing as I learn so much.

I think it is important. We kinda get absorbed within our own words and we know what we want to say, so it all makes sense to us. But it needs that professional eye to really tell us whether we make sense or not!
