5 Reasons Why 𝑅𝑒𝒶𝓁 Bloggers Blog, And 5 Reasons Why 𝐼 Blog

There are a lot of us bloggers out there in this blogosphere… around twenteen gazillion, the last time they were counted. (Early Years teacher speak there for numbers, I’m allowed!)

But why do we blog?

I’ll give you five reasons why many bloggers blog.

  1. Instant fame through viral posts.
  2. To make money. (Not easy!)
  3. To sell their books or products.
  4. To give advice on various issues out there.
  5. To rant – and I mean really rant!

But that’s not the case for a lot of people.

I know that list is nowhere near the reason I blog.

Here.

I’ll give you five reasons why I am sat here in this blogosphere, and I’m willing to bet there are are a good few of you who could join me in some, if not all, of my reasons!

  1. I talk. A lot. And there isn’t always anyone available to listen, so instead of spouting off to the nearest ear, I can type, and type fast, so I can get the verbal diarrhoea out in written form instead!
  2. I’m a people person, but I don’t always have the time to go out socially with my physical friends, so I get to hang out with my blog pals and Blogily whenever I want, and am able.
  3. I get to stretch my creativity with the umpteen challenges I take part in, and I’m also able to learn so much from the posts I read.
  4. It helps me organise my thoughts when I am confused. Seriously, you don’t know the amount of times comments on here have really helped me in life – so thank you.
  5. I just love it. My own space on the Interweb… where I can always be me.

You see, my blog is not my business, it’s my wonderfully therapeutic pastime.

And there’s a chance that in the not too distant future, all I have built up on here will help me launch that danged book of mine, but until then, I’m happy for it to be a place to hang out, to chill, to relax, to put the world to rights – oh, and to share cute cat pics too!

So tell me… why do you blog?

I started blogging because the Publisher of my first book told me I had to, because otherwise I wouldn’t sell any books. They said I had to build an “Author Brand” and sell myself in order to sell books. At the time I knew nothing about blogging but I did what I was told because I wanted to be successful. Since then, I have grown to love blogging. I’ve met so many wonderful people in the blogosphere and they’ve helped me through so many tough times in my life. Now I blog because I love to interact with my creative, talented, intelligent, kind, and insightful online friends. ❤ xo

    Some great reasons!

    Here are some of mine:
    1. I like chatting, but I don’t like or feel happy in big groups. Blog comments can be answered one at a time without the sensory overload I can feel in big groups.
    2. I love writing and have done since I was a kid.
    3. It feels good if you find out you shared some information that helped someone.
    4. It’s a good way to meet new people who share your interests. People you may never come across in real life.
    5. You can do it at any time from anywaere. Even if you’re really busy, you can squeeze it into your schedule, which you can’t so easily do with a club or activity where people meet at set times.

I love your reasons for blogging, Ritu! I share these, and think the blogosphere is a wonderful place that should be celebrated because despite the bad reputation it can get sometimes or the issues with ‘too much’ technology and such, there are so many joys that come from it, too, for readers & writers 🙂

A lot of times, I blog because I’ve been to a convention and want to share my notes from panels on writing for those who can’t afford to go (money or time-wise).

Sometimes I blog because I’ve seen several people asking a question about writing (or a streak of several people making the same mistake) and a facebook comment just kinda turns itself into a blog post.

I’ve blogged because I figured something out that worked for me and wanted to talk about it.

And occasionally? I blog because I haven’t missed a week in 3 years.

Very similar to you really, I enjoy the writing and the community, although I didn’t know how much until I started. I have a lot to say, that often people around me don’t want to hear or don’t understand.
Also, I want to raise awareness.

I blog in several places for different reasons. For my savingchamps blog I share money saving tips and make some money via affiliate sales and ads. On one of my other blogs I write about communication/writing strategies (related to my research & expertise). I also write blog on Medium primarily for my fictions and poems. I love writing so it is fun to me.

I started because I wanted to develop my writing and also as a way to relieve stress. I enjoy writing. I have found a lovely group of people here that I did not expect to find so I am glad that I was brave enough to join word press and submit my 1st post. After starting I then thought of monetising. Maybe just enough to cover my self hosting fees. Thousands like some people boast making would be amazing but I’m a realist, I’m not that lucky. Anyway so i enjoy my blog and I’m happy that have found friends here. Thankyou.

It started out as a way to build a platform and establish myself as an author, then it became more about making me a better person, now it is more about staying in touch with the friends I’ve made along the way.

I always like to read about why people blog, it’s really interesting 🙂 I blog because I like to share things with other people. Things I find, learn, and experience. I find that a blog is the medium that enables me to do that in a way that also allows me to do it in a way that helps others.

I like to write, have always wanted to write. I think of ranting, but, am afraid it won’t come across right , but sometimes I write out a rant and then delete it, it’s out of my system and I haven’t offended anyone! I doubt if I would ever go viral on anything, but, I love my blog and my blogging friends. You have all kept me company and encouraged me and helped me grow in my writing. ❤

Terrific post – I have been doing this for 6 years now, and the reason I began isn’t the reason I continue, but it does all of those things you mention – I also have seen new people begin blogging, and some stop – so everyone’s personal reasons dictate how much they blog and why – again, great post – RT’d!

Wonderful post, Ritu. I blog to teach parents and teachers, because young children are so important. I don’t write about curriculum or give dry advice. I tell stories about what happens in my classroom, and those stories are both inspiring and helpful. I make children and the everyday come alive. It’s the little things that are really the big things. I love to write! ❤️

I like being liked… so ego really… and yes, the people one meets add to that and, yes, I like crafting silly little bits of nonsense. Maybe what I really like is praise, the craving for attention. There, it’s now out there: my name is Geoff and I’m addicted to nice people saying nice things (about me).

It was for none of the above reasons that I started blogging. To be frank enough I had nearly zero social media presence except a (lousy) LinkedIn profile that was a part of job search may be a century back. I was “emotionally” blackmailed to join a family whatsapp group (and I do confess that I now waste a lot of my valuable time on Whatsapp that could have been wasted sleeping) some four years back where I used to share a few poems that had started writing around that time. I was brainwashed by my nephew to start a blog to share with an wider audience and the rest, as you say, is history. I stayed because of the wonderful, unseen friends in blogosphere.

Yep, thankfully there’s space for us ‘doing it for the fun of it’ bloggers still. Generally I’m blogging because I now find it difficult to actually speak after a stroke.
So for me it’s a way of getting my um.. humour (?) stories and silliness out of me in another (hopefully) entertaining form.
