Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 210

“If life was easy, where would all the adventures be?” –  Anonymous

Thank you for that, Spidey.

We are about to embark upon another adventure fuelled by life not being easy!

The in-laws are off to India, which means childcare fun… and juggling lots more stuff than usual, as they aren’t here to be the support network they usually are.

It used to be much simpler. The kids were both at school where I worked. I could arrange for them to go to after school club, then leave at a decent time, so things were okay.

Then Lil Man went to Secondary. That year, his friend lived a few moments away, so I’d drop him there every day and pick him up from there too. It was like he had surrogate grandparents.

Last year it changed as his friend moved to a different place.

And so the juggling started. He could walk to my in-laws a few times a week, as my brother-in-law works from home some days, but the others, he had to come to school to me, which means no work gets done, as I am refereeing between the kids instead of doing what I really need to get done.

This year will be much the same, but Lil Princess wants to walk to her grandparents’ house on the days her uncle is home too.

Fine.

As long as they don’t try and commit murder whilst under his care…

Still, I’m sure we’ll manage.

So… tell me, what adventures are you planning soon?

How long are they away for Ritu? Hopefully you can juggle everything just fine.

Life does have a way of becoming complicated, doesn’t it? I have settled into a routine of errands on Monday with Sunday leftovers repurposed into a casserole or a soup for lunch (which is when we eat our “big meal” now that we are retired). Both Tuesday and Thursdays are pretty full mornings, both with volunteer work at two different places. I have begun helping out at one of the teaching volunteer positions visiting friends who are sick or lonely and need cookies or something and a quick stop-in (I do call first.). Fridays are reminiscent of my childhood favorite, The Mickey Mouse Club on TV…”Anything can happen.” Sometimes it’s a “retail” or eating out adventure with my husband. Saturdays are a stay in your pajamas day, and Sunday is filled with church activities and reading and writing blogs or plans.
I think it is time to do something to shake things up a little, and am considering doing a workshop or mini-class on something fun at the local library. Or perhaps I could resurrect either my Kid’s Bookworm Club or my on-line book club. With spring just around the corner, I’m getting antsy and ready for something NEW, not something as additional and permanent to my routine, but something that has a beginning and an end. Hmmmmmmm

You do have a full on schedule!
But yes, you’re right, it’s good to shake things up a bit once in a while!
My parents are also a big meal at lunch kinda couple!

Ooher. I relied on my husband’s mother a great deal when the kids were all small and at home. Then we lived in Georgia and I bartered with other moms who were far from their families, too. When we got back home, I depended on my husband’s father for transportation of the younger kids a short time. Now the in-laws have moved away and the kids have to have work-arounds much like yours will in the upcoming time. Carpooling is a necessary evil for me, and will be until I let Sassy drive…
At least their grandparents will return from India — LONG before you need your kids to drive 🙂

Life seems like a never-ending series of juggling acts – each time you manage to keep the balls up in the air, someone tosses two more into the mix!

Be happy, you experience so many new things every day. I agree with Erika and the others. That brings momentum to life. 😉 Michael

I hope the juggling helps to keep you sharp. Otherwise, well, let’s not go there.

Definitely, the changes and struggles bring adventures which help us to stay creative or develop something new. Such challenges through changes always happen but there is always a way and on the other hand, new options can open up the same way. Happy Sunday, sis.

Parental juggling is no easy task, Ritu. Michael was stung by a bee yesterday. It seems he has the same very allergic reaction I have to a bee string. My morning has been spent rushing him to the doctor and then the pharmacy and trying to finish Greg’s birthday cake for this afternoon, in between.

Been there, done that with no in-law support. Could empathize.
