Tuesday Poems For #Writers #Inspiration #WritingCommunity – To Indie or Not Indie?

Another poem inspired by Lucy of Blonde Write More! Thinking about the choices we make regarding publishing!

Could I do it
on my own?
Could I afford it?
Take a loan?

Push myself to
edit?
Teach myself to
market?

Formatting for
e-books
Seeing how the
inside looks

Do I need
a paperback?
Should it be seen
upon a rack?

Or do I try
submitting?
Find an agent
who is fitting?

A person who
can take care
Find me a deal
that's just and fair

Get me published
traditionally
What others think is
'properly'

So my books will
sell in shops
And book charts?
I could hit the tops!

Both are hard
Both need your book
Both need your time
Both need a hook

Yet with one
you sell your soul
Trying to achieve
your only goal

And the other
it's up to you
How much effort
you put in to

Creative control
may be taken away
Indie or traditional
I'm starting to sway...

I think you could be successful as a self-published author because you already have a huge platform with your blog and many, many connections. Do you know Derek Haines? He is self-publishing since many years and gives great advice on his blog: https://justpublishingadvice.com
But whichever path you choose: you are a great writer and will see your book become reality 🙋‍♀️🐝

That is learning by doing. You need to try it out and see what fits best for your! I think, if it is possible financially, I would give it to a publisher. It is a kind of book which needs a lot of formatting and it shall look and be professional. Another reason is, that it is your first book like this. I would let it a publisher do. That way you can still follow the process and be an active part of it which makes you see what all there is to do. You could try it yourself with a second one.

I know, I did that with my poetry book too. But this is a different category of book. But as I said, it is learning by doing and you will find out. You can still give it a publisher if you get tired of this all, also with the marketing. It is not easy and a publisher has better connections.

I know… been there. It is a process of itself to find one you think you can trust. But I am sure, if you throw the question into the community you well get a lot of suggestions which are already proved. That way you cannot go too wrong. You can then contact a few and see which offer fits you best. It is a try. You don’t lose anything.

That’s always been the thorn. Do we trade our rights just to get on a book shelf or should we just pour ourselves into self marketing? Great poem!
