#SoCS July 13/19 – Instructions

Linda’s #SoCS prompt this week:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “instructions.” Write instructions for anything you know how to do. As detailed or as rambling as you’d like. Enjoy!

Instructions For How Not To Write A Book

  1. Have a brilliant idea
  2. Start writing it
  3. Spend 18 years snatching moments to write
  4. Finally type The End
  5. Realise that is not the end really
  6. Reread.
  7. Rewrite
  8. Reread
  9. Rewrite
  10. Get readers
  11. Rewrite
  12. Try and submit to agents
  13. Feel down, then perk up when you remember J.K. Rowling and Stephen King had many rejections
  14. Find an editor
  15. Get excited and look at cover possibilities
  16. Read feedback from editor
  17. Cringe
  18. Rewrite
  19. Reread
  20. Tentatively send out to next set of readers

This is when it can go one of a few ways.

  • You find an agent, and get a fantastic publishing deal! Yay!
  • You find your mailbox cluttered with rejections and you decided to give up… Don’t!
  • You look at the possibility of Self/Indie Publishing, find a fantastically supportive community and find your success that way! Double Yay!

I’m at the post Editor feedback rewriting stage now. Thankfully there weren’t as many cringes as I thought there would be… It’s just crazy trying to find time to finish the rewrite!

Hopefully it won’t be long before I can announce something postive about this book!!!

Something I find helps in the editing stage; there’s a feature on Word where you can listen to an audio transcript of your work. Listening really highlights weak areas.
    Best of luck!

Wishing you good fortune with the indie publishing. I’m at #1 and 2, hoping to start putting a dent in it in another week.

This gave me a good giggle, Ritu. I am at the stage where I never want to see Through the Nethergate again.

Sounds familiar… lol! I think I will do exactly that in about half a year. Then I hope I can reduce my work hours and finally translate the manuscript which has been waiting for about 8 years… probably it will be completely rewritten… haha!
