Could’ve Been a Rockstar
“ROCKSTAR IN MAKING SHOT ON STAGE!”
Minnie wiped a tear from her cheek as she scanned the article on the front page of the local paper.
He had indeed been someone destined for more than a few shifts in the Walmart down the road.
Jamie Smith.
Simple boy, with a talent for playing his guitar and singing.
It was the end of term, and school had its annual talent show.
The audience was held captive, in more than one way.
During his performance, gunmen stormed in, opening fire around the hall.
Jamie was one of the first to fall.
I need to give a little credit to Lil Man. I told him about the prompt and he said why not write about a boy who is a famous rockstar and gets shot on stage. A little different to his initial idea, but all credit to him for giving me that thought!

Further proof of why I struggle to live in the real world. I’m glad our family lives in Australia and am very grateful to the people who fought hard for tighter gun controls.

How could we know that the day after you wrote this, America would experience yet another Wal-mart shooting? Yes, we can say “typical” in America. But this is not normal. This is not right. Yesterday, before the shooting I was outraged to read a report of Trump’s latest political rally. I’m honestly trying to understand his sick allure. The reporter wrote that when the crowd started to disperse before he left the stage he blurted a rallying cry in support of the second amendment (gun rights). And the crowd went wild. I was so sick reading it, and then hours later, 20 potential “rock stars” who never got to live up to their full potential were slain in a Wal-Mart in El Paso, Texas by a disturbed soul who believes the migrant ideology spouted by evil. I’m so sad today. And your story says it all in tribute to one of many cut down.

We are all one missed stair step, one car accident, one trauma to the body away from death. Heart attacks kill more people than any other cause of death, and that has killed some high school students who excelled in sports and were on the fast track for the big leagues.
It is a stark reminder that the next hour, day, month, year are merely shadows of what could be — and far from certainty.
