Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 250 – Tis The Season To Be Sneezing

img_00411

“Tis healthy to be sick sometimes.”

David Henry Thoreaux

“Say what, Spidey?” I hear you all cry, but, you know what? He’s right with this one he’s found today!

Seriously, as I sit here today, typing away, with the first sniffles of the season (for me, anyway), I get it.

No one wants to be ill. No one wants to feel incapacitated in any way, least of all at Christmas, when there is so much to do, at work as well as home. Colds and flu? They can do one.

But they won’t.

When they decide to come visiting, you have to make a decision. To battle through it, and possibly infect a whole host of other people, or to sit back and allow your body to take over.

Because, a lot of the time, you get a cold because you are run down. Sure, getting caught in that downpour may not help, or going out, not wrapped up properly, can make a situation worse, but I do believe that getting a cold os really your body’s way of saying “STOP! You need to rest and refuel!”

I really should take my own advice. Yesterday, I awoke to the sniffles, but had a busy day planned, takinbg Lil Princess to visit some friends, and the idea was that they chilled out whilst I found a comfy sofa in a coffee shop, and read or wrotte, peacefully.

Nope. That didn’t happen. We still had to go, but Lil Man was with me, so I ended up dropping her off, then traipsing around a few sports shops with him after a meal together, (mother/son date – don’t have as many of those as I’d like!), before my knees said “Sit down!” and my head willed Lil Princess to want to go home.

We managed a couple of hours, where I did convince him to go and sit with me in a Costa Coffee shop for a short while, then once home, I slipped into bed with a good book, and did what I should have been doing all day – Read and snoozed!

Today, I hope to feel a bit better – got a hair appointment – but the rest of the day will be more resting up, and relaxing, ready for the last week of term! I only have to last 3 days, then officially we break up… I can do it.

Just need to shake this stupid cold! (And try and ignore Hubby Dearest who seems to have contracted Man Flu AGAIN! I just think he’s jealous that I really need the tissue box this time!)

So… tell me, what do you do to get rid of colds?

Oh, My Dear!! I’m sorry to hear you are battling with a cold or worse!! I haven’t been getting colds since bumping my Vit C to 2,000 mcg a day. Same dose for D3. So far so good! I would suggest 4,000 mcg of Vit C for a couple of days and a gallon of water a day. Hope you feel better soon, Dear Ritu!!

I think Spidey had some drinks today….. It is good to battle through adversity for sure but It´s not cool at all to be sick. My body is a wreck, now I have to take care of my mother. Walking up and down town to get this or that for her, supermarket, housecleaning, e.t.c. Ofcourse I do it, plus hear her nagging at me constantly….Jeeeesus, anyways I do it she is mother, but I could do it much more quicker and more effective if I hadn’t the ill body I have. My body is a constant sniffle you might say. So I prefer healthy all day everyday.
By the way I don’t know what happens that I can only comment and like if I get into your post through the reader not if I go to your blog. You are plotting against me……

I really wish you and your family to become healthy before your time to enjoy the Christmas, Ritu.
When I get a cold, first relax a lot, then drinking lots of water and warm tee and I use essential oils down my feet in the night and at the breast several times daily, like Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Thyme and Peppermint. All helps.

Feel better, Ritu! Drink lots of water, don’t get run down, and wash your hands – that’s my Dr. Jennie advice. 🙂

There comes the point when the body simply is too weak and is caught at its weakest spot. And colds are the most common thing these days. But we all know it passes again. So, it is still better to go with a cold for a week (when even it is restricting and comes at a really bad moment) than developing a more serious issue.
What am I doing? For example, Inhaling with oils fitting the symptoms (remember my posts about rosemary and thyme). But of course, there are more oils like tea tree, lavender, eucalyptus,… Nose spray for the night. Drinking lots of teas (cold remedies) and water in order to spill the bacteria out of the body.
Whatever you do, I hope you are through it soon, sis!

I had a cold that overnight became a sinus, ear and eye infection two weeks ago, Ritu. I had to work the whole week and that weekend and, as a result, I still feel off colour. Resting is best. I hope your last three days go well. I am also working three days next week.

Since I retired three years ago, I think I’ve had one cold. Not commuting on crowded trains and tubes really helps, as does not working in offices where people came to work with colds.

Honestly, since my stroke, I have slowed down, rest poorly but more usually, dodge stress easier, don’t take on so very much, and worry a lot less. Some of this is due to the effects of the stroke physically, but some of it (most) is due to not working and the mental effects of resetting my brain. I haven’t had but 2 days of actual flu and no colds in 3 years! That is down from about 12 sinus infections a year and several colds with bronchitis once or twice a year. I follow a new spiritual direction and base most of my life on “The Law of Attraction”. Illness does get you when you are down and out; I am almost never down and out. I love this part of it all.
