Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 262 – Viral Positivity

“What you think, you become.

What you feel, you attract.

What you imagine, you create.”

Buddha

Thank you, Spidey, for this. I think we all need to read, absorb and act upon this quote, especially right now.

So… heard of Covid-19, or Coronavirus? If you haven’t then where have you been the last couple of months???

For some it has become the biggest shadow in their lives.

And it looks like the panic is definitely setting in here, in the UK.

From people wanting to buy and wear masks when outside, to the supermarkets displaying empty shelves as people dive into panic buy mode, it is crazy.

It’s true. I went to do my normal shop last night, and thought I’d pick up some hand sanitizer whilst there so the kids could keep one in their pockets. But the shelves were BARE! There was no handwash, pasta was almost gone (Funny, even in panic buy mode, people won’t buy wholewheat pasta!) and the toilet roll was pretty much gone. ( I wasn’t aware that excessive tiolet going was a symptom?). And that is the picture that is being shown across pretty much all supermarkets at the moment.

If you so much as cough or clear your throat, you see people giving you a wide berth.

At school parents are asking if we are closing for some time.

It’s like no one is willing to think positively. Instead they grab the news and twist it into the worst picture possible.

It will be an EPIDEMIC!

We will all end up ill!

And Chinese Whispers don’t help, either. There was a rumour that a child in a local school had been sent home with the virus. My mother in law told me.

Really? I work in a school. We would be told of that immediately, and action plans set in motion, if that was the case.

But one of the local shop keepers had said it, so it must be true!

I checked online, and the story was that a child, displaying no symptoms of illness, was found to have been in contact with another friend, from outside our town, whose family member may have tested positive. The child was sent home to self isolate as a precaution, and get tested, but the school was not shutting, or going into deep clean.

Reassuring the in-laws that we were safe, I was then not surprised to hear others in the Indian community here, spreading the story. (Obviously the shopkeeper had been busy informing customers!) It had changed into there were two cases IN OUR SCHOOL! Someone asked me what the contingency plan was now.

I looked at this parent and had to stop myself from rolling my eyes, then told her that no, there was no cases in the school and if there were, it would be highly likely that the whole place would have been shut down for deep cleaning… so she would have known!

Seriously, it’s like people are just wishing for the worst to happen.

I am trying hard to stay positive about it all.

Yes, there is a chance that we will shut schools for a couple of weeks, if the Government advise it. But not at the moment. Things are just continuing as normal. We’re taking the opportunity to reiterate personal hygeine at school, in a roundabout way, without scaring the kids. Making handwashing a necessary fun activity.

I don’t plan to be ill, so I’ll do or not do all that we have been advised to do, or not do.

I’ll try to keep spreading positive messages to those around me, and quash feelings of fear as much as I can.

I’ll hope for a town that escapes the LURGY!

I know it’s scary.

It’s a new virus that is mutating regularly. But it still isn’t a worse killer than the flu.

In most cases, it is a mild cough or cold that clears up. Those at risk are the elderly and those with underlying health issues. They are also at risk from any other cold, flu or virus too.

The biggest things you can do are:

Not panic.

Wash your hands.

Don’t unnecessarily touch your face.

Live life as normal unless you have been told otherwise.

PLEASE!

So… tell me, how is the coronavirus affecting where you live?

Have a peaceful, healthy Sunday Peeps.  And enjoy your week! ❤

Did see many bare shelves in our market where shelves are, normally, near overflowing. The US is falling into the panic mode at a slightly decreased speed, but it is getting there. I am retired. I still go out but not more than normal and not really less. I will wash my hands better and, I must admit, that sneezing and coughing to worry me just a bit. I refuse to panic. God watches over me and I will be fine. I am more worried about my Mom, in her mid 80’s she is a bit of a threatened population. I will lift you all up in thoughts and prayers.

Fear causes people to stop thinking clearly. The flu kills thousands of people world wide every year without global notice. To prevent illness all we have to do is eat right, get good amounts of rest and take care of our health! It’s crazy how washing your hands can do so much! Supplements like Vitamin C, Echinacea and Garlic support immune system health. Relax and make smart decisions and we will all be fine.

You are right Ritu, many people seem to go in panic mode.
Another thing is, that I became a bit scared to have got that virus in my last travel, as I started coughing etc, as usual with an influenza. Then I have been checking up with the symptoms and no, I do only have an ordinary influenza. I did have two travels with middle landings first in Gatwick and on the way home in Amsterdam, so it could be possible to be hit this way.
I do have one big wish for people, who are moving around outside their home; Please be aware not to cough out in free air, use paper in front of your mouth when possible or use your elbow to avoid your infection to hit other people.
I saw so many humans, who didn’t think right in this way in the flights…

Well said, Ritu! The only schools here who have closed for a deep cleaning are those with confirmed cases. Really, I think the press and the news are fanning the fire.

Our health minister addressed this issue on the news last night. He said that was the reason they did daily updates of the cases (and deaths), so the public is kept properly informed.
Lots of the store here are rationing paper products and hand sanitizer now. It’s scary, for sure. We live in a major tourist city and have cruise ships arriving soon- one of which is supposed to be the Grand Princess, quarantined off the coast of California. I’m very worried about the speed at which this virus is spreading.

The media only induces widespread panic with wall to wall coverage. I believe Netflix has a Coronavirus documentary. Several streaming services are showing the movie “Contagion”. I take every virus/cold/flu bug serious. The best we can do is keep up good sanitary practices in the home and outside. Also make sure we have enough toilet paper 😄

Great advice, Sis! Dont worry, it seems like only a role play of one of the well knowm us-american Armaggedon movies. 😉 How scary people can be, only be one virus, much less harmful as Ebola, Dengi, Lassa, or all the other viruses?
Maybe a good stress test, for what could be happen in twentiy years. Dont panic too. Whats about a third book about “Arranged meeting – What the flu can do!”
Best wishes, stay well, or send a Call to Action. 🙂 Michael

I’m not panicking either. I didn’t realise that people were panic-buying, but that might explain why there were no eggs in Sainsbury’s on Thursday. It didn’t even occur to me. I wonder what people will do if there’s ever anything to panic about.

Hey Ritu, lots of people I know in the UK are not worried about this virus and say it is just a flu! They also state that the normal flu kills 6 thousand a year, so the corona virus is not a thing to be panicking about. Loads of people are self isolating themselves as well. In the shops, hand sanitizer, tissues and soap has run off the shelves and people are stocking up madly just in case! I mean, I go into Tesco to get shampoo or tinned fruit and cream for dessert and it’s all run out. And I’m like, why are they buying EVERYTHING! And I went shopping yesterday and one guy put more than eight big bags of cat litter, how considerate, and he’s not even coughing! I think people are overeating……….
The shop managers must be glad though, they’re getting more money!!!!

I just said to Sylvester that it is in our attitude how we create our experiences.
Regarding the virus. I am more afraid of all of the hysteria than of the virus itself (which I am not afraid of at all). Of course, we need to take care of ourselves that we don’t get the virus and keep up the sanitary directions in order that we are not infecting those people in the high-risk group.

Hi Ritu, I don’t understand this Coronavirus panic. The stats does support the mass panic and economic damage that is currently underway. The 10% of South Africans who don’t live from day to day and who can afford hand sanitizer have acquired some and I have seen signs of some stockpiling. Most of our people don’t have luxury of panic buying.

It us ridiculous, Robbie. I just hope these people stockpiling are actually using these items, rather than keeping stocks, just in case…

People are in panic mode. Here in Bangalore, masks are hard to come by since the shelves have been emptied out by the panic-stricken crowd! Yesterday, I was in a long distance bus. Half of the people were wearing masks.

This is me, the other day while at the hospital taking care of my mother ( I´m just a hero) was down stairs to take the elevator upstairs…… Who do I see comming? Two Asian people, and by instict I turned made as I was talking with my cool 15$ phone and let them pass into the elevator. My grandmother didn´t have no education obviously, meaning going to school-college, PHD… holy, talk to her about that she is probably yelling in her tomb. She did have the education of life hence I brought her up, one of her sayings ” Better be safe than sorry”.
