Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 267 – Gratitude

img_00411

“Some painful endings bring the best new beginnings.”

Shae Ross

Well, that is a kinda apt quote for today, and the today the world is living in, Spidey. You’ve obviously got a lot more time on your hands… because, as we all know, the real superheroes of now, are the frontline carers, not you colourfully costumed figures!

I know, we’ll always need, you, but alas, your facemask is not actually medical grade, and therefore not really going to help you stay healthy… and as for Batman, just an eye mask? Really? Did no one tell him he needs to rethink his facial wear for a little while?

Sorry, I digress. Firstly, may I wish all those that celebrate, a very Happy Easter Sunday!

I know it’s a quieter one than usual. There won’t be gatherings of family over an Easter meal, exchanging eggs as per the traditions, after attending a service at church.

But, essentially, Easter is a time for rebirth. Think of new beginnings. And in order for there to be a new beginning, we need to finish the previous chapter.

Now, I know that we are far from finished with the current chapter of this world’s life, but have you noticed the shoots of new beginnings, already trying to burst through into our bubble of lockdown?

Skies are beginning to clear of the clouds of pollution that hung heavy for many years. Animals that feared the open, are beginning to venture out into the world that was once theirs, before humankind began to destroy their natural habitat to build upon it. Gardens are beginning to bloom with the signs of spring. Each morning, and throughout the day, due to less traffic on roads, the chorus of birdsong is audible to all.

And that’s just nature.

Within our humankind, people are reaching out to others, in various ways, be it shopping for vulnerable family members, or neighbours, or making a phone or video call, to catch up with someone you haven’t spoken to in forever. We are appreciating, more than ever, those folk who do the jobs that keep the world as we know it, spinning smoothly, while we go about our very important lives.

Who knew, Mr Dustbin Man is far more important to me than an overpaid lawyer. A supermarket worker holds higher regard than Mr Business Man who travels to the office daily to spin money from deals. Thank you Delivery Drivers, for making sure we have all we need. Mrs Teacher, after spending so many months with my own children, I think you must be a saint to want to do that for a living! (Sorry, had to nod at my own profession!)

And those health workers. I doff my cap to you all, I clap every Thursday at 8pm with the rest of the nation, but inside, I’m clapping 24/7. From the nurses and doctors, to the orderlies and hospital cleaners, the paramedics and the pharmasists, to the carers visiting vulderable folk at home. Thank you.

I truly hope that after this awful time is over, the new beginnings that emerge include much, much, much more appreciation for all you do.

So… tell me, what will you appreciate more, when this pandemic is done with us?

Have a peaceful Sunday, Peeps  And enjoy your week! ❤

Terrific post Ritu! I look forward to all of us being more respectful of our environment, since we have a dramatic reduction in pollution thanks to “sheltering at home!”

Hi Ritu, It’s on Amazon.ca. In case you don’t have access to this site here’s what I wrote:

I loved this first novel by Ritu Bhathal. I’ve recently returned from a five-week trip to India and, reading this novel, extended my trip. Although I did not visit Delhi and Amritsar – the holy city for Sikhs – the author’s description of these cities brought back memories: a flight full of Indians going to India, the traffic and the smell of incense and food venders in the streets and how connections are important whether it’s with a hotel, a tour guide, a shop, or a rickshaw. Stuff like that. The essence of India.
And, as I had not visited this part of India, I was happy to read about the Punjab and Sikhs and their culture, particularly from the viewpoint of a group of friends and relatives in their twenties or so. I had come across mostly Hindus and Muslims in my trip to India so I found reading about the Sikh culture and religious rituals intriguing.
The plot for this delightful romance novel was a lot of fun to follow. It has a sit-com feel to it. Like Friends. Marriage Unarranged is an uplifting and absorbing novel with characters who care for each other. I recommend this novel to anyone who is young at heart and believes in happy forevers.

Happy Easter Ritu! I miss going to the movies, sitting down at a restaurant, just being able to celebrate Easter with my family, going to the hair and nail salon. I’ve been watching funny movies these days to keep sane.

Great post. I think those on the frontline are really shining bright and will hopefully not be so overlooked in future years. I miss just going into a cafe and getting a coffee. I miss going to the library. Strangely I even miss getting on the train in the morning. I can guarantee when we do go back to work, the novelty of getting the train will wear thin very quickly! Have a great Easter Sunday!

It is a time of growing awareness. For some a new awareness and for others a time of confirmation of how aware they have already been with what they appreciated most. Happy Easter, sis 💖

Nice, Ritu. Lovely balanced piece. I will most appreciate being able to drive to Lake Windermere, only forty mins away, and have a cup of coffee while looking out at the peaceful and reflective surface of that vast water…
    Happy Easter! 😎

It’s amazing what we took for granted before, isn’t it? But it does make me appreciate where we live, and what we actually do have, rather than mourn for what we don’t.
      Happy Easter, Steveb🐰
