One Lines Wednesday – #1LinerWeds – #BLM

“Standing tall, with you all.”

Ritu 2020

I know, it’s meant to be one line, but a poem, if I may…

I am one of the #BAME
Proudly I stand as a #POC
But this #POC is more #AME
And I want to stand for my brethren #B

How do I help?
What can I do?
At least I can start
By educating a few

I needn’t look far
Just sitting at home
There’s topics to raise
Face-to-face, on the phone

Call out the comments
Question the views
How would you feel
If you were in their shoes?

It’s not just about
Being treated the same
But respecting differences
Trying to say names

Not just assuming
That because of their hue
That person is better or worse
Than me or you

#AllLivesMatter
We all know that
But #BlackLivesMatter
And it ain’t showin, that’s a fact

Standing tall with you all

very well written. it really is a struggle to fully comprehend that racism still exists till today and the black community is the victim of such ignorance. we must use our voices to make a change! BLACK LIVES MATTER and “matter” is the bare minimum as black lives should also be accepted, respected, and loved.

This reminds me that you’re a Briton of Indian descent – how’s the anticolonialsim stuff going there?

Oh, it’s exploding in all sorts of ways.
Far left and far right at war with the world. Statues defaced or pulled down. Protests turning to riots.
      High tensions escslatingbingk violence.
It’s not helping anybody right now…

We are all human. Our differences should be celebrated. But it’s not quite an even playing field yet…

It is definitely not an even playing field in so many parts of this world, including my native land! There are lots of injustice, inequality and brutality out there! 😞 We should keep raising these issues to make this world a better place for everyone!

This is a good poem, Ritu! #Blacklivesmatter Yes of course all lives matter but this is urgent! Someone I know explained it well on Facebook. They said it’s like this: It’s as if someone called the Fire Department because their house is on fire and burning down. There is a sense of urgency! You are fearing for your life! Of course the other houses matter because we don’t want them to burn down, etc. I thought it was a good analogy. Lol.

Unfortunately I am not sure if institutional racism is something we can eradicate in the next 100 years. I am a glass half full guy but losing faith the attitude of some.

But it’s in our hands to begin the changes, is it not?
I agree it won’t be an immediate switch, but it’s got to start somewhere…

It’s been in our hands since the dawn of time. Just look at last year when top level footballers representing England were being racially abused on the pitch…21st century and where are we. Feels like a car we just try re starting but only gets so far before it breaks down again…how do we educate the source of the problem?

The first step is not forgetting about the issues after a week, or when things die down.
It’s keeping our minds open to everything, in reality, in our ordinary, always.
The problem is, we will stand, fight against, protest, then forget.
        Until the next time.
Keep the topic current, not in a negative way, but by not sweeping it under the carpet in a couple of weeks.
Keep starting the uncomfortable conversations that will hopefully lead to turns in mindset.
Like we agreed earlier, it’s not going to happen overnight, but it needs a consistent drip feed so our kids grow with a more open way of thinking, so our elders question their own long held thoughts, so we don’t allow uncomfortable situations to go by unacknowledged, because we don’t want to rick the boat.
        Sorry.
        Off the soapbox now!

My heart has been heavy for some time that equality of race in this world is still an issue and that people of color are still being treated as if they don’t matter. I love your many lines today, Ritu. I hope recent events, words and actions can help foment change.

      Thank you, Marje.
It’s been going round and round in my head. Whatvm can I do to help?
I have words, I’ll use them.
We’ve spoken several times as a family. I’ve called out and corrected people in the past and even within the last 24 hours.
      But I still feel helpless.
      😢💔🖤

That’s really a long line.. hehe. But worth the extension, sis. We all different and still we all have the same basic needs. And since we all are different even that we are having in common. The better we understand that the more respect, acceptance, and compassion will be generated. Very well done, sis!
