#SoCS Jan. 30th – The Beginning/The End

Linda’s #SoCS prompt this week…

Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “the beginning, the end.” Write about the beginning of something and the end of  something. Bonus points if your first sentence contains “the end” and your last sentence contains “the beginning.” <– Read that again. Have fun!

At the end of the day, it all comes down to common sense, doesn’t it?

There are so many decisions that politicians have taken for us, over the last year, and they have, for the most part, shown us just how inept they are at thinking of logical solutions, which require common sense.

There’s a virus, get people to wear masks. Oh, no, that isn’t very effective… roll on a few months. Everyone wear masks, unless you are at home, or outside… or in school, because school is a magical safe place where no one gets ill. Um, maybe we should get older kids to wear masks, actually… oh, and maybe adults, in communal areas.

U turn!

Another one.

We’ll just make people stay at home for a while, when they come back from holiday. And create ‘travel corridors’ with other ‘safe’ countries. Oops… seems peopel are bringing the virus, and it’s bigger cousins, back with them. Let’s shut a few corridors down, then reopen them after a while. Months, and months,, later. Um, maybe we should stop all travel…

Common sense, I told you!

There are so many areas of the handling of this pandemic, that could have possibly been better, if there was just a little common sense used, right at the beginning, don’t you think?

Here in the US, we sadly showed the worst of ourselves in 2020…and as a result more than 4,000 people die EACH DAY. We are finally turning the corner, but hundred of thousands died needlessly…will we learn? We will see…

I agree with you, Ritu. The world could have been in a better place had there been a concerted effort to be scientifically intelligent, use common sense, and send a clear and consistent message about masks, social distancing, and not gathering in groups, at bars, etc. I hope if this ever happens again, in another century, that humans can look back and clearly see how to handle this in the best way possible to keep people from dying and put the breaks on a pandemic quickly.

Well done on the prompt and pointing out the twists and turns of the pandemic real-life horror story.

Ritu, well done. It may have been Mark Twain who said, “Common sense is not all that common.” Keith

I think the pandemic is what comes to mind first in many people when looking at the prompt.

This pandemic was something no one was prepared for and I actually don’t feel like blaming our politicians. They are not good at doing what they are supposed to in normal circumstances and this has tested them far too much. All we can do is pray for better things. Have a good weekend.

Sigh. That’s the biggest thing we have learnt in this period. That not all professionals can possibly know everything. New discoveries (of viruses like these) come with new learning curves.
