Spidey’s Serene Sunday – Part 345 – Time Starved

img_00411

“It is not that we have too little time to do all the things we need to do , it is that we feel the need to do too many things in the time we have.”

Gary Keller

Thanks, Spidey for that simple, but so true, quote!

Firstly, Peeps, I apologise for the late post.

That thing spoken about, above, time, got away with me, again, and I didn’t get our post ready, as I usually do, so here I am, actually typing it on a Sunday morning, instead of scheduling it, in advance, the day before!

I’m definitely one, firmly in that category of trying to do too much, constantly, and though it has tired me in the past, right now, I have another obstacle to contend with, too.

Before moving, we lived five minutes away from school.

Now, I have to factor in an hour, in total, to commute to and from work.

And that is five hours in a week, sacrificed to the Gods of commuting. Sometimes more, if there is traffic. It’s not even as if I could use it productively, and listen to an audio book, or call a friend, or even use my voice function to record thoughts for my WIP. because the kids are in the car, and they want to listen to music!

It means I seem to find less time to tackle the laundry when I get home, meaning a pile of ironing, and I mea a HUGE pile, on Sunday, grocery shopping, house cleaning, etc. And all those jobs you leave for the weekend, in general, too.

Like yesterday, after shopping, and sorting lunches out, I chilled for a while, then Hubby and Lil Man went out, so I tackled fixing together our new bedside cabinets. It’s not a hard job, just long. An ardous task that took me nearly four hours.

Back aching, one cut thumb and a scratched leg later, it was done.

By then I was too tired to actually get my laptop out and write even a little post!

I have got better at saying no to things, honestly. There was a time I felt compelled to agree to do everything I was asked, but now, I am firmer, if I know it is too much, but there are still jobs that need doing, and I really do feel like I need just one more day, every week, so I didn’t feel so rushed!

So, today, once all are up, will include a general house clean, and then I need to do some work, in preparation for school, tomorrow. But I will try and factor in some me time, too, promise! And time for words!

So, how good are you with time management?

namaste

Wishing you a wonderfully peaceful Sunday, Peeps!

Ritu, your longer commute is a big deal. Still, you are achieving far more than most, considering commute time, school, blogging, and family. Hats off to you!

That longer commute must be the downside of moving…I found I was better organised when I was working plus I used to delegate..everyone had their chores and the car radio was mine…earbuds are good for kiddies and they can listen to anything they like 🙂 x

The older I get the better I get at saying no, but unfortunately I’ve also gotten better at saying yes to a wider range of things! I get it. Some of the house stuff just isn’t going to happen around here. Thankfully, my boys are old enough now that they can at least fold their clothes. I don’t iron–ever. That’s why God made dry cleaners–my husband knows where the shop is! But, of course, the yes-stuff–volunteering for a multitude of things–seems to take me farther and farther from home, where all the stuff needs done. Oh, and maybe this rule will work in your house. Driver decides on music/audiobook, whatever. Your kids could wear earbuds, right? I get a lot of audiobooks read along our school commute!

I can’t not iron. Too many shirts that wrinkle, despite being non iron, and to dry clean all would be far too expensive!
I try and get the kids to help, even offering pocket money, but it doesn’t always help!
And, the car… well, to be honest, I’m not an audio book person anyway, but I’d love the chance!

Please do not assign Sonu to dusting. Lol
Hi, Sis! I had thought you are moving nearer to your school. Gosh, one hour on the streets can be a very long time, and also very stressful. I hope you had finished all the cleaning up, and wish you a calm week. More and more i am changing to winter sleeping mode. 😉 xx Michael

Sonu Contributes in his own way, adding his fur to the mix!
Before, we lived literally 5 minutes away. Now we moved to a village, so it’s a longer drive, through country lanes, instead! Xx

I can totally sympathise with this. I am constantly short of time, it is so hard. I don’t have nearly the time I want to spend on writing fiction – barely any so far this year in fact, which is disappointing. Although the freelancing is going well, which I’m happy about. But yes, fitting in running a household and children and a full-time job and all of the things is tricky. I hope you found some time for yourself today.

Time can escape whether we are busy or not. We just have to try not to get on the negative side of things where it is affecting our well-being. I know has its way of overwhelming us at times 🙏🏽💜

Here’s my “Catch-22”: I’m great at time management, having worked for years in “live TV” because you have to be! However, I’m a procrastinator, which means I let things pile up rather than move quickly through the process….oh well, always great reading your updates!

Ritu, good quote. It reminds me of that theme of “don’t sweat the small stuff.” Keith

Been there, done that and made myself so sick I had to take 6 months off for stress leave and have been on high blood pressure pills ever since. If there is anything I would do over in my life, it would be to not try and do so much in the time I had. The quote is right on.

I have always been guilty of overestimating how much I can get done in a day and I don’t expect I’m going to change now.

Sorry to hear about the commute time Ritu that sucks. You can only do what you can do and teaching must take up so much of your energy. Sending hugs x
