You know you get invitations to weddings, or parties, or other functions, with this written along the bottom:
Please, no presents, your presence is gift enough.
…or some such like phrase. We see them at the bottom of most wedding cards, or invitations nowadays. It’s become the latest tag line to use.
Though, a lot of the time, most guests still come with a wrapped box, a gift bag, or an envelope with money enclosed.
So, what is it? People not reading the cards right. Or still feeling obliged to bring a gift. Is that line there genuinely? Or just that, an overused tagline?
Or is it an invitation, knowing a gift will come, monetary or otherwise, regardless of whether you want the person there or not?
Just thinking….

Traditionally people married and then lived together so wedding presents were a good way to help with setting up their new homes I guess.

Yup, that was the case, but nowadays it can feel like people almost invite hoards, to Indian weddings, knowing how much money they will get, not necessarily even wanting the people there!

Yeah that’s probably not so good. We changed venue quite late on because too many found out where our wedding reception would be and invited themselves along. I had a little chuckle to myself on the day imagining them all arriving in the wrong place

What! Lol I invited 50 after weeks and weeks of shrinking lists. I didn’t even invite half my family

It does involve a lot of politics, indian weddings! Who to invite and who to omit!
But it is a bit less now… 500ish!! 😜

😁 I know….!
Listen, that is nothing… I have such a large family, and my parents know so many people, Pops had a list of 1200!! We had a venue, it held 1200. I had to remind him my husbands family needed space too!
Then the venue fell through so the next one was 750 capacity. Luckily my in laws are a small family so 200 allocated to tgem.. (200… Small… Yes I know!😜) but I saw Pops heart break every time he cut someone off the list!!
