Bricking it!

im-scared_jpgI’ve spent a fair few hours this week on work related stuff…

Yes, I know it’s the weekend, but still, needs must.

Alongside the cleaning, the grocery shopping, the Mum’s taxi service to various clubs, the cooking, the homework, the blogging, I have been nervously planning.

Nervously planning for my first every observation as a teacher. I really am bricking it!

On Wednesday my co-teacher and I will be being watched, and then we will be given a judgement on our teaching, with constructive feedback. I know my observer, she was the teacher I worked with last year, and she is always so positive with regards to me and my abilities. In fact she was one of my biggest supporters when I went for this job.

But I am so scared… Scared that I won’t live up to her expectations.

I’ve spent hours completing plans that show what we are doing and why… Now I just need the kids to comply! It’s on Wednesday, first thing in the morning… and hopefully a good omen, it’s our wedding anniversary the same day.

Wish me luck peeps!

Just found you through our beautiful mutual friend, Erika. As a former teacher I now share a powerful technique for calm and focus that I wish I’d known (for myself and my students) while still in the classroom. — With eyes closed, cross ankles and wrists as you touch palms and lace fingers (thumbs pointed down). Now Feel and Follow heartbeat – that’s all – for a short time, up to a minute. It’s an amazing left-right brain hemisphere connection that helps with comprehension, memory, and problem-solving.

I know you’ll do fine, I see this a lot at one of the schools I work when a teacher is being observed, they work late the day before, creating all these plans and lesson, everything goes well.

Ritu, your observer knows you very well! She wouldn’t have suggested you for that job. AND!!! She might be a little experienced with children of that age. So however your children act doesn’t matter at all. Just do what you usually do ……… and all is well! Right because you are so nervous and spending hours preparing everything shows how serious you are. It will be ok, sis! 😘😘😘

I had a situation this week where I had to run a meeting that I’d never done before and wasn’t sure if I could do it. In the end I told myself, “they’re lucky to have you.” worked like a charm 🙂

Best wishes. All I had to do was my student teaching to get my masters in education and I walked away (and jumped over to a BA in Creative Writing) — I have the up most respect for those such as you who are able to stand up in the front of the class. I’m feel you’ll do just fine.

Oh Ritu, I know the pain of this all too well. It’s done a little differently here in Ireland but I know how stressful it feels. It’s terrible feeling judged. The thing is, it never goes as badly as you think it might.Ii always find that the observer is always very constructive and the feedback really helps in the long run. I was once told that I hang my hands in front of me like a T-rex, so it can’t be worse than that LOL!
Best of luck to you 😀

Lol! Thanks for the words of advice and confidence! Really I can’t wait for the school day to be over on Wednesday, then I know it’ll be behind me! Unless it goes terribly, and I have to be observed all over again!!!

My instructor’s advice was always ‘be prepared, but not too much’ which sounds silly, but he was right. Too much prep can be a really bad thing.
I’m sure it’ll be totally fine and you can relax when it’s over. Even if there are some things that don’t go to plan, it’s never the end of the world! You must let us know how it goes 🙂
