Tuesday Truths

I loved this one when I read it.
We live in too much of a gadget-run life. The reliance on them means we have almost forgotten how to actually converse, and interact with real people!
My parents were at a wedding reception and there were two girls sat on their table, heads down, busy on their phones for ages, giggling intermittently. There was company galore, good music, dancing, food, yet they stayed there. After a while my mum asked what one was doing. She said she was messaging her friend. Mum assumed she was telling a mate about the party, it it turned out that she was sat across from her friend, texting her! They weren’t even talking, though they were sat next to each other!
Really!!??

If there is anything you take from this post, it should be to actually chat to people, meet up with them, and let them know you’re thinking of them… Not just a Facebook like, or a WhatsApp group message… I’m guilty too. But I know I need to reach out, in reality too, not just via Social Media!

Have a lovely day Peeps!

But I Smile Anyway...

Oh the irony that I’ve just picked up my phone to comment on this wonderful post sis. No seriously couldn’t agree more there is a time and a place for tech. It isn’t a replacement for social skills. It breeds a complete lack of them and respect.☺

That is so true! People would rather sit at home and watch tv, when outside is such great weather. Personally, I love to ride my bike around the neighborhood at sunset. It’s a great time for me to wind down, look at the beautiful colors, and peacefully feel the evening breeze!

    Oh my goodness!
My girls message one another room to room WHEN THEY’RE IN TROUBLE AND FORBIDDEN TO LEAVE THEIR ROOMS! lol The Mister and I do that when we’re having private convo, like, “When do you want to go to the fair?” or “Let’s put the kids to bed early!” lol I can’t imagine doing that otherwise!
About a year ago, I was at a wedding reception and several teens had plugged in their phones so they could text and whatnot. I walked up to one of the kids and said, “This is a party! It’s like a group chat, but in person!” I tried to convince them that they could dance and mingle and have a good time, but they would not move! I thought it was so rude to the hosts. Crazy stuff. Mercy, I hope they weren’t chatting one another!

It’ll be a long time before I hand my kids a cell phone 😉
Their DS’s allow them to message short distance, and that’s fine enough for now!

Yup, right there with ya sister!
My two have our old phones, only if we’re on a long journey, as without a SIM card it can still be used as a WiFi run tablet, so they play games, to stop arguments!!! But not for anything else!!!

Hi? Me again. About the questions up there.
Call, no. I am not missed.
Ask, I do now, with google.
Explain, I don’t bother doing it.
Change it, oh yes all the time and I burn bridges while I am at it.
Tell them, I do. Only to my boyfriend.
Invite, no. They have a life and they are very busy.

Sat across from her texting to her!
It is great for a deaf person to communicate to the hearing person.
Vice versa. I don’t do any of the texting the facebook the twitter and whatever else is out there. Just this my laptop and wordpress is all.

Seriously. I feel people will eat mobile apps for lunch someday. Someone asked on quora – is there an app to create painting ? Do we have to tell the younger generation you pick a brush and colors – as simple as that.

Pleasure to follow your blog. Keep posting.

What a funny story and shocking at the same time… But so normal in these times. It is a lovely message, Ritu! It would be so easy. I just thought about that point: If you want to be understood… explain!
I wanted to be understood and tried to exlplain… but nobody listened… in the end it killed my love in my marriage. But it taught me one most liberating thing: I don’t need to be understood in order to feel worthwhile!

Thank you for bringing this up, Ritu. In the classes I used to take, students were constantly typing on their mobile phones through the class ( goes to show how interesting my class was, of course) but I thought it was not good at all. Honestly I never dared to ask them to leave the class or stop using their mobiles during class.
Children are device addicted these days and not a few adults too.

This is just it Susie, modern life has made it too acceptable… It’s like when you go out to dinner and everyone has their phone in front of them, just in case, or they are busy photographing and instagramming the pictures, commenting on a wonderful night, when in reality, they haven’t actually had a conversation yet with their companions!

I guess the modern man is so used to social networking that there may come a time when it will no longer be a social nicety to talk to people face-to-face. All I can say is that it will be a very ” avoiding” society. How easy it is to sprout words on a device but not be able to say the same directly.

So true! It makes me feel old sometimes when I look around and see everyone plugged in to headphones or on their phones and wonder if they’re missing out on life!!

I remember going out to functions, and us kids were running riot… A few years ago when my son was a few year old, we went to on engagement, and I glanced around… No kids… They were all sat at the back along the wall, holding various hand held consoles… You can swap that for tablets and iPhones nowadays! It’s disrespect in some places too..
My parents were at a wedding ceremony, in the temple, and yes, we all check our phones… But there was one mum who had her lil un entertained with Peppa pig on an iPad. And as the priest was singing, there was peace… When there was a break in the music, you could hear the Peppa pig theme tune! That is just blatant disrespect! Jeez, if you’re gonna be that disrespectful, and not teach your child to need Peppa pig during a wedding, at least invest in earphones!

Then there’s the reception home visits when the parent is on their phone and the kids are on the tablet or watching TV and you wonder why you’ve bothered!!

Oh yes, I’ve seen a few of them with the nursery ones we did in June! Actually one child gave us a tutorial on how to use the X Box, as mum looked on proudly!
