A friend posted on Facebook about the British Government’s decision to plan air strikes over Syria, and she just simply put “no likes, no comments, other than agree or disagree…”
Made me think.
I’m so not into politics, but this whole war against ISIS affects us all.
My first thought was …
Of course we should get over there, bomb the terrorists and show them what we think! Yes!!!!! Agree!!
Then I thought, and I changed my reply…
What about all those innocents who will be killed in the midst of hoping that we are striking an ISIS stronghold? That is certainly not fair…
As I scrolled down other people’s views there was a lone ‘sitting on the fence’. I didn’t change mine but…
Do I really want to be sat in the midst of World War 3? After all this is where it’s all headed, isn’t it? I’m no politician, I can’t make these decisions, but when I see things on the news, and I see my son, Lil Man, an impressionable 10 year old, who is starting to understand the implications of these happenings, watching, with concern, then turning to me to ask ” Mummy, are we going to war?” I really don’t want all this fighting, killing and bombing.
Of course we want peace. We want any religious extremists to not be there, killing in the name of God, a God who has never condoned the taking of lives. We want these people to either change, or not be there.
But we don’t want bloodshed.
Who wants their children to be brought up in a time of war, fearing everything, because we don’t know when they are going to retaliate, and when they do, because you know they will, where these retaliations will take place?
God only knows the right decision… I, for one, really don’t.

I think even though we don’t want any wars, unfortunately it’s the way of life to protect ourselves from the evil that mankind can do. The terrorist are like big bullies and someone needs to step up to them to let them know they can’t treat us this way etc. This goes for any kind of terrorist.
Innocent lives will probably get caught in the cross fire but innocent lives are already being killed by the terrorist. I know it still doesn’t make it right but if countries do nothing, the terrorist will win and a lot ore innocent lives will be taken. It’s sad and disgusting that these things happen but the world (not just us) needs to stand up to the “bullies” to protect ourselves.

War is never pretty. I’m not saying it’s right but our nation (Israel) had to bomb gaza to weed out the terrorists and there is always the risk of killing innocent ppl but I think our army is the only one that tells the ppl to get out bc they will be bombed. but then they use the innocents as human shields 😦
It’s tough…

No easy answers here, Ritu. In the U.S. we have more murders by domestic terrorists than ever – the recent shootings at the Planned Parenthood, and now the San Bernardino massacre. Trying times.

Governments and rulers as far back have had their fingers in the pie of war, so have financial interests. Banks funded Napoleon, so we shouldn’t doubt they play a role today. It’s not fair that terrorists go after innocence the way governments do, but that’s what happens. No one wins and the innocent always pay. It’s all about control of resources. Same thing happened in America with the natives. Only the innocent were hurt.

I hear you Ritu. I have no idea whether or not the right decision has been made. However, I will say this, the extremists must be stopped. When you stop and think about how this whole thing blew open, I can’t help but think that if Bush (followed by Blair), had not poked his nose into something that did not concern him, would we have this current problem? I think perhaps not. Personally, I think he should be tried for war crimes, because the only weapon of mass destruction was his brain.
If it were not him though, someone else would have started a war. There will always be a war monger out there. We the people, are just looked at as ‘mere pawns’.
I look at Max and really am afraid for his future. Is there one? I don’t know. But I do know this; mankind are destructive. A one beautiful world has turned into complete and utter chaos. No doubt, a contributing factor is that of greed. Smh.

That’s why I understand Obama’s strategy of not actually putting armed forces on the ground in this war- perhaps like us, he is a pacifist and is unable to decide, which way to go.
As a prominent leader once asked ‘ Define terrorism”- what is “terrorism” for one may be ” freedom struggle” for another. So, Ritu, who knows ?
As to children, I guess, if LM is sensitive, maybe better to keep him off any such sensitive news- I was at that age, petrified as to whether there would be a US-USSR Star Wars and the world would end – it is about 30 years hence.

Nope. It does include that, but it is much more… More of a line, than a point, actually. We often don’t realise the unintended and far reaching consequences of our actions. And, we expect people to adhere to standards that we ourselves violate.
This does not mean that I don’t sympathise with the French. But, bombing innocent Syrians in an act of vengeance is not going to solve the problem.

There’s so much to consider… I think just like you most of us would have said yes in the first place but then you start thinking and immediately you think of the innocent. Then you think of what you might trigger as well. At least I do. You feed them with reasons why to hate us: Because we killed innocent people. They won’t mention what they do of course and keep killing themselves. And it will go on and on and on. But then you think about the chance to just kill off the ones that are responsible. And you think yes again. But what if there are too many and they are everywhere, not just in Syria. And the circle starts all over.
I guess nobody really wants to take a decision on this. I really feel for our politicians at the moment. If they do something it’s dangerous or even wrong. If they don’t it’s wrong too… Glad I’m just a SAHM…

Brings back a lot of memories of the 60’s with the USA and USSR. One “push of a button” and we would have been involved in a nuclear holocaust and, as kids (albeit big kids) … we understood that reality. It is sad that we do not appear to have progressed from that point but then, I wonder if we ever will as long we behave as if killing for peace can work.
Perhaps instead of generating more hate by killing, some of the “war money” could be used to understand why extremists exist. What do they perceive is lacking in their lives such that devastating responses are considered acceptable? Perhaps if their standard of living could be raised to that of ours, just perhaps they would be happier with their lives and see no need to rebel.
I am hopeful that if enough countries freely offer help and support to enough refugees, then the message just may get across that we are not against their color, culture or religious beliefs. It’s obviously more complex than that, but some humane actions would certainly be a good start.
The history of our world would infer that “fighting for peace” may well resolve major conflicts, but it always seems to create small cells of individuals who need to retaliate in like manner. As long as we kill in the name of peace, what logic would lead anybody to believe that world peace could be the result?

That is a question which should not even be asked. I am not a political person at all and I have no idea about all those strategies. But what do we do, when heading over and bombing the terrorists? The same they do. What do we cause when we are acting with revenge? The same the will do and will do again… an endless circle wich never leads to less but mor violence. I know it is asked a lot and I might not be understood by many. We reacted with violence and it caused more attacks. So if we want to have peace…. perhaps we need to react with peace. It won’t work out right away, but I definitely don’t see that fighting brings peace. That will bring us war. I think: defending yes, but not heading over and bombing everything down! Thank you for bringing this up, sis!
