I have borrowed Marje’s wonderful words to convey the information about GDPR on my blog, as I haven’t a clue otherwise!
The wording and compliance has been set as a page on my menu at the top of the blog.
This is a short post re: GDPR which comes into effect on May 25, 2018.
Any cookies on my website are used to ensure normal website functions. These cookies cannot be switched off because the website wouldn’t function properly without them. However, it is my understanding that these identifiers do not store any personal data.
When you leave a comment on this blog WordPress will automatically store your gravatar name, IP Address, comment, and email address. Therefore, leaving a comment is considered a definite intention, as defined by the GDPR giving me consent to store this information, and permission to contact you in the future.
But please rest assured that your personal information will not be sold or shared with any third parties under any circumstances. If you wish me to remove your data for any reason please get in touch.
If for whatever reason you do not consent to the above, please don’t leave a comment on my blog.
If necessary I might amend this policy in the future – I don’t currently have an email list – but I do intend to do this at some point. Therefore don’t forget to pop back and check this page from time to time to see any changes that might have occurred.
I am no longer an Amazon Affiliate but if I do decide to do this again I will clearly state so on this privacy page.
I will be adding helpful links re – GDPR below to assist people:

It’s really important for businesses, and those with email subscriptions and newsletters, or if you sell products on your site.
I don’t do either, but just to be sure I created a page.
If you have European readers, it’s worth just adding a page for safety!

So, it appears to me that the wordpress privacy and cookie policy covers us and we don’t need anything extra – is that true? When I logged into my blog today and just now reading yours I had to accept that I understood that cookies were used. It seems to me that nothing else would be needed, especially if I am not selling or providing a service other than posts to read. It is all rather confusing. I have very few email followers at this point and I don’t think any are outside the U.S. so not sure I need it anyway at this point. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to have something just in case 🙂

I had to activate a widget for that pop up to appear. So do that at least. The rest I’ve added as a page in my menu to cover all eventualities… I hope!
It is a minefield! I don’t get it all but am gleaning info from others!

Thanks – it appears that I have the banner going, but it doesn’t go away when clicked so will have to figure that one out. Happy Blogging!

I am very confused about this EU regulation. Frankly, I have no desire to sell your personal information to any entity, and prefer, for that matter, that I not have my information shared either. I would hate to lose my EU-based friends’ comments, but will understand (sort of) if they have any doubts and stop commenting.

If I understood it, I’d gladly follow the law. As it is, I don’t know if it applies to my blog, if I am compliant.

Shailaja, I actually got this from Marje’s blog, so as long as you ask her, I am sure there is no issue! But it is important to make sure it covers what you do on your blog!

Oh ok…the only part I don’t need is the Amazon affiliate part (I think) so I’ll add it to my blog, separate page, like you did.

Dealing with the new GDPR is part of my work but regarding asset management companies. That’s why I am glad that I finally found a declaration which is fitting our blogs, thanks to my blog sis, Ritu! Please, read the complete post and add the information to your blogs in case you are part of the EU or if you have people from the EU commenting on your posts!

Thank you very much for sharing this, sis! This is what I was looking for on WordPress but couldn’t find till now. I know about the importance regarding GDPR since I am a compliance officer and we are taking care regarding its extended regulation. I will use the wording you used here too because I did not know how to use it regarding a blog. Thank you again, sis!
