He scratches his head self-consciously. It always happens. The moment a child in class is known to have nits or lice, then the urge to itch hits…
He knows it is a peril of the job, but what can he do?
That girl was sitting, scratching like no one’s business, and the moment he got close enough, he could see them swarming around her her scalp.
He’d held himself together, not like the teaching assistant who he’d called over to confirm what he thought. She retched upon seeing the movement on her head.
Right, he thought. Off to phone the parents. And to tell the school office. Another nit letter needs to go out.
The class parents will be thrilled!
