Police!!!

As I mentioned before, the kids are having a Lego Mini figure moment right now… So we went out and they wanted to spend some of their pocket money at the Lego store! OK, no worries, we could do that…
Half an hour into being in the shop… OMG! How many combinations??!!
Its secretly quite addictive! I was making them too, but obviously not to the kids liking! They could make 3 for £5, including an accessory…
The above one, Lil Princess made, an Indian policeman, she said!!!
I think we’ll be here again one day… Or maybe it’ll be just me…!

Bribery! Works Every Time!

The Prize!

The Prize!

It’s hard enough on the holidays when the kids constantly tell you they have nothing to do, they’re bored, arguing over silly things, telling tales, not allowing mummy to blog… you know what I mean!

Well, things in our Smiley Household have been much like this, especially the last couple of days as Hubby Dearest isn’t here either, so it’s me vs. the crazy kids!

They haven’t been as bad as they could, granted, but there is that constant little bickering, where Lil Princess wants everything, and if she doesn’t get it, I get the whiney “Muuuuuum!” noise, which I cant stand! Or there is Lil Man, who would be glued to his console/Ipad/the TV if given half a chance, or retaliating in a thoroughly boyish way to the annoying habits of his sister, resulting in pushing and shoving.. and I have to say, for a lil fellow, he has a lot of strength!

So today, we popped out to the shops and saw The Bribe Prize!!!!

This the latest phase said crazy kids are going through at the moment, collecting the Lego figures. And they aren’t cheap, at £2 a pop, so when I saw them on offer, I thought “Result!” (yes, arm action used and all!)  I bought them, see the picture, and the kids saw me buy them… but there are stipulations… Play nicely together, be good, try not to be too loud, and please don’t tell tales, then maybe, just maybe, there will be a figure for each of them at the end of the day!

And, guess what? It’s working so far! Lil Man just came up to me to announce that he and his little sister have been playing Lego Star Wars really nicely together!  Which appears to be true, as I have not heard anything from them, other than nice, playing together sounds! (If there was silence, I’d be more worried!)

Tutti frutti Salad!

Nani got the kids working in the kitchen, making melon balls and cutting fruit!
A beautiful fruit salad for a sunny spring day!
Not that Lil Princess will eat it… Did you hear about her issues? No? Well check em out here!
Mind you they even made smoothies, and she had… 3 sips! Well, 3, better than none eh!!

We had an art day on Tuesday at school and Lil Man was inspired!

Making Yarn Eggs!

The things we do!

I’ve seen these on the internet so many times and wanted to try them for ages. I’d bought all the materials required but they just sat in my giant arts and crafts collection…
Its been decided that we’re making  them with the children at school next week, so I thought I’d bust out my stuff at home n have a go.
So what do you need?
Some water balloons
PVA Glue
Water
A bowl
Some tiny treats, foil wrapped preferably
Wool/yarn
Empty egg carton
Needle or pin
Tweezers

What to do?
First somehow, and its not easy, (which is who I say small treats!) insert 2/3 treats into the balloon.
Blow them up to just bigger than egg sized.
Tie the knot.
In a bowl pour some glue, and just a splash of water, and mix well.
I cut long lengths of wool, each enough to wrap around the balloons, and soaked in the glue mixture. The length required depends on how big your balloons are.
Tip – soak them a strand at a time to avoid them getting knotted and tangled and keep one end handy for when its time to start wrapping.
Next, the messy part!
Take the wool and somehow, squeezing excess glue off it, wrap the wool around your balloon in a beautifully haphazard manner. Be sure not to leave any gaps large enough for the treats to fall out!
Once wrapped, hide the end under another piece of wool and lay in the egg carton to dry, or on a drying rack. You might find excess glue dripping off the balloons, so lay paper underneath to catch any spillages.
Once they are all complete, leave to dry. Make sure the location is not too hot, your treats might melt!
(I found  they needed a good two days to dry, leaving the wool nests pretty sturdy.)
Take your pin and gently burst the balloon, and if need be use tweezers to fish the balloon remnants out.
And you should, should, be left with a cute egg shaped basket with sweets and treats inside!
An inspired gift idea or favours idea!

Here they are!

You can experiment with different strings or wools, and also sizes!
Happy Easter Crafting folks!
