Ronovan’s Weekly Haiku Challenge #70 – Crane & Gold

wpid-haiku-challenge-image.pngOh yes, you know it’s Monday when the haiku start flowing! Ronovan’s weekly challenge had hit, and boy is it another doozie this week! Ronovan, with these words, you are really testing us!! Check out the challenge here.

The prompt words this week are Crane & Gold. The lovely Ron encouraged use of the thesaurus to really get into these words this time, and I have to admit I was flummoxed to start with, but I came up with two….

Mane

lionHis halcyon mane

Enhanced by the fiery

Orb that is the sun

Happy New Year

We all crane our necks to see

Big Ben chime midnight

Haiku sure taxes the mind

Ronovan’s Weekly Haiku Challenge – #67 Call & Cheer

image

Monday arrives, and so does the weekly haiku challenge set by our dear Ronovan.
Please check out his challenge here.
This week the prompt words are Call & Cheer.

Can I say before I write, I am not feeling too ‘cheery’ at the moment, due to some sad personal news. The only ‘calls’ I had, held sadness…

If this colours the way I think about my haiku, I apologise…

——-

Gone – Tanka

I call out to you
As you seem to be floating
Far away from me
It hits me, like a bullet
Happiness evaporates

——–

You left me then. Gone
No word to say you were off.
I feel so empty
Knowing that I shall not see
Your cheery face anymore…

Ritu 2015

I shall add another, more light hearted one that I also penned…

Last Orders – Haiku

The barman calls time
Then changes his mind… Lock In!
Cheers erupt all round!

But I Smile Anyway...

Ronovan’s Weekly Haiku Callenge # 66 Pine & Grief

Monday came and Ronovan set us his weekly challenge again. Check it out Here.
The prompt words this week are Pine & Grief.

Strangely simple, yet oh so tough too. You could be very obvious, but then again, obscurity could hit too…

What will I manage to come up with this time???

20150108_183338Sonu Singh’s Lament

Pining for his clan

He cannot contain his grief

Left alone… Again

Bed of pine needles

Mere moments of sheer pleasure

But hours of pure grief

There you go, two for the price of one!

Ronovan’s Weekly Haiku Challenge #65 – Clear & Harp – linking to a hardly political blog-cast!

Monday heralds the Haiku challenge our dear friend Ronovan sets each week. Check it out here!

The words, Clear and Harp… Again Ronovan, you are totally testing us!!!

Election Fever

It doesn’t matter

How clearly I state my views

You harp on anyway…

Ritu 2015

A little background to this haiku this time.

We are in the throes of election fever here. Not General elections, but the time to select the new Mukh Sevadar, or President, of the Sikh Temple here.

It’s annoying enough, getting bombarded with literature and visits at every turn, from well wishing supporters of various candidates, to family and friends who have their own agenda with regards to who they support.

But to have scandalous videos, and mudslinging happening between the two candidates…. Or their parties… That is unacceptable.

We are voting for someone to lead our temple for the next two years, a place of worship, a source of sanctity, not to help people with their own personal gains. This role is pretty big. We are one of the largest Gurdwaras in Europe. We need someone who will act for the good of the Sangat, the worshippers, creating a temple and atmosphere of spirituality, and serenity, not someone who point fingers, or wants gratitude.

I’ll name no names. I’m not swaying votes with my piece.

All I know is I have read lots, and it’s becoming hard to decide what is truth, and what is a pile of lies…

Truly, it has become politics within religion. Manifestos, debates, promises. All I want, and what most of those I know want, is a Gurdwara where we can go to, to pray, to soak in the beauty of the Sikh religion, to feel tranquility….

Ok, hopping off my soapbox now!!!!
