Deep Swimmers by Richard Robinson #BookTour #Blog Tour @r_we_r #DEEPSWIMMERS

I am excited to be on the blog tour for Richard Robinson’s Deep Swimmers!

The Blurb

Belfast, 1995. When an elderly couple fall to their deaths from the city’s notorious Ashton Tower, the incident is quickly ruled a suicide. For most, it’s a tragedy. For British Intelligence, it’s the beginning of something far more dangerous.
Jones and Jenny, now seasoned members of MI5’s Young Communicators Unit, find themselves pulled into an investigation that reaches back to the Second World War. The case sees Jones return home to Suffolk, where he must handle a homeless republican veteran still hiding from something.
What begins as a routine inquiry soon exposes buried loyalties, forgotten operations, and a web of deception that comes to an extraordinary conclusion.
As police investigators, MI5 officers, and retired spymasters circle the truth, a Mossad agent opens old wounds. Someone is determined to keep the past buried, no matter the cost.
Set against the tense backdrop of 1990s Northern Ireland, Deep Swimmers is a gripping espionage thriller about the deadly legacy of covert lives and the price of keeping secrets.
Some falls are accidents. But hiding from the truth is a deadly game.

My Review

Deep Swimmers by Richard Robinson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Crime and espionage – not my usual go-to, but I was happy to read something different from my norm of culture, women’s fiction and romance!
Deep Swimmers is the fourth book in the Topaz Files series, and it was most definitely a gripping read that keeps the pages turning.
Since I hadn’t read the previous ones, I wasn’t privy to some of the earlier events that may have been referenced in Deep Swimmers, which did not detract from my enjoyment of this read.
Set in the 90s, with a tale of intrigue surrounding an elderly couple in Ireland, apparently committing suicide together… Or was it? Were they pushed?
That’s where the title Deep Swimmers comes from: those who may have had some connection to spy work but are no longer active are still recognised for the work they did.
The story may start there, but the reader is drawn into many more mysteries as connections between key characters and past events encroach upon their lives.
We have WW2 events entwined with more modern political issues in a delicate, but very clever way.
I really loved Jenny and Jones’ chemistry, and Mr Singh was a particular favourite!
If you love a bit of a mystery with espionage involvement, you will love this!

About The Author

Richard W. Robinson is an author and journalist and spent his early days freelancing or working in agency positions across the UK and Ireland. The Topaz Files is a series of spy fiction novels where we follow the missions of Jones and Richmond as they make their way through the early years of a career in espionage. The first, published in May 2023, is Topaz and this was followed by Wild Flowers a year later, The Mainstay and Deep Swimmers have since been published. The novels are works of fiction but reference historic events in 1994-1996, around the time of the peace talks in Northern Ireland.

Outside the literary world, Richard lives in East Anglia, England, with his wife and two daughters. He is the CEO of a charity focused on ending the abuse of older people. He’s a very committed cratedigger (vinyl collector) and can occasionally be seen in the stands at Loftus Road and Windsor Park. Look out for the Topaz Files on social media and for the forthcoming releases of SEEN/UNSEEN (book five) and The Rock Ledger (book six). Robinson has also finished a Cold War spy story called German Bite which is expected to be published in late 2026.

The Blurb

Two old friends. One sun-soaked adventure.

Dorothy and Gina may be separated by twenty years, but their friendship is timeless. At seventy-one and nearly ninety, life’s too short not to have a little fun – especially in Corfu.

When Dorothy is invited to visit an old friend at his villa, she insists Gina comes along. They’re looking forward to sunshine, sea breezes, and perhaps a dash of ouzo. But their plans are upended by an unexpected guest: glamorous actress Florence Quinn, who’s taken up residence in the pool house.

Florence may sparkle on the surface, but she’s hiding something – and someone – from her past. Determined to help, Dorothy and Gina embark on a quest across the island, only to find that Corfu holds more secrets, scandals, and surprises than they ever imagined.

A warm, witty, and adventurous tale of friendship, mischief, and unexpected discoveries.

The Old Girls’ Island Getaway by Kate Galley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

After reading the previous exploits of the Old Gals, I was excited to get back to Dorothy and Gina’s world, because they do find themselves in some interesting scrapes, proving that there is no age limit for fun, frolics and friendships!
This time, Dorothy takes Gina to Corfu at the request of one of her old friends, who lives there, and also her teenage granddaughter, Juliet. Florence, who is an actress, joins them out there, caught up in a bit of a scandal of her own.
The description of the scenery is fab and made me want to go there, even with all the steps you have to climb to get back up to where you started!
And the story itself is pure genius, when there are hidden agendas, teenage hormones, and some oldies who are up for adventure, no matter what it entails.
I won’t lie, there are a couple of sad bits, which reflect life, but there is plenty of light-heartedness, and definitely scope for more adventures, nearly 90-year-old Dotty definitely has it in her!

The Last Laugh Club by Kate Galley #BookTour #Blog Tour @rararesources @KateGalley1 @BoldwoodBooks

Thrilled to be on the blog tour for Kate Galley’s The Last Laugh Club!

The Blurb

Three former friends. One last request. The journey of a lifetime!

In life, Norman George – passionate knitter, excellent friend and secret youtube sensation – liked nothing better than a good laugh. And, it seems, he gets the last laugh even in death, because at his funeral, he invites his three closest friends to scatter his ashes in a place close to his heart, the Shetland Islands. The only issue is, while Bridget, Gloria and Derek might have loved Norman, they can’t stand each other.

So it’s with trepidation that the eclectic trio set off in their minivan on the ferry to Lerwick, each harbouring their own reason for wanting to grant Norman this last request. But as storm clouds roll in over the Shetland Islands, all of them are about to discover that some secrets are best shared, and that even after death, good friendship can change everything…

My Review

The Last Laugh Club by Kate Galley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another caper of the older generation, thanks to Kate Galley, whose books I have come to enjoy because they give hope that life doesn’t enter a stagnant period after a certain age.
This time, we are on a journey with three old work colleagues: Bridget, Gloria, and Derek. They are brought together by the sad demise of another ex-colleague, Norman, who tasks them with a simple request. To scatter his ashes at the northernmost point of the UK, which is the arse end of nowhere!
They were never the best of friends, these three, so the idea of having to spend more than a few hours together is a bit of a chore, but the trip is not without incident, and there is a bit of soul-searching along the way!
Bridget’s character is battling with memory loss, which causes its own issues. Gloria can’t quite shake off the persona of the ex-boss of these other people, and Derek is just desperately trying to ensure his friend’s last wishes are upheld, along with a bit of unrequited love to add to the mix.
I loved the story from start to finish, and the little twists of mystery and secrets that are uncovered made this a real page-turner!

My Review

The One Before the One by Emma Cooper
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

OMG, where do I start with this book?
First, I want to review with no spoilers, but that will be sooo hard to squeal about the twists and turns without giving things away!
So, can you imagine having the chance to go back to a ‘better’ time in the past and making some changes that could change the trajectory of your life?
Liv finds herself in that same situation, except on the eve of her wedding.
After losing her fiance, Kit, tragically, it has taken her years to come to terms with his disappearance finally. She has taken steps to move forward and seems happy until a freak moment takes her back seven years to the week before Kit’s disappearance.
This is where the story takes off. There is a dual POV and a shifting timeline. Short chapters take us through Liv’s experiences as she relives a week where she is not sure she can change anything, but she learns a lot about her own life that she had no idea about. And the experiences of one who left in the days after his disappearance.
I don’t want to be cryptic, but I can’t say too much other than I was gripped and confused in a good way. This romantic mystery, as I think it should be tagged, had many twists, which made me double-check things. It was so cleverly written that I didn’t know what was going on for a while!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an ARC.

The Old Girls’ Chateau Escape by Kate Galley #BlogTour @rararesources @KateGalley1 @BoldwoodBooks

Please join me on the blog tour for The Old Girls’ Chateau Escape by Kate Galley.

Two old friends. One unexpected adventure!

When, at the age of 71, Gina Knight’s husband of four decades left her unexpectedly, she thought her life over. Until she met Dorothy Reed – a woman so full of the joie de vivre you’d think she was 21, not nearly 90. Gina would do anything for Dorothy. So when Dorothy suggests she take on the role of companion for one of Dorothy’s old friends, Gina sees no reason to say no.

Meredith Harper is a successful writer, living in Provence, and needs help looking after her husband, whose health is deteriorating. But when Gina arrives at the grand chateau, it becomes clear that Dorothy has not given Gina the full story.

Because Meredith is also writing her memoirs, and Dorothy wants to know the contents before anyone else. So much so, she’s sent Gina to spy.

But what secrets is Meredith keeping? And will Gina be able to find out the truth before her cover’s blown?

My Review

The Old Girls’ Chateau Escape by Kate Galley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’ve read the previous book, Old Girls Behaving Badly, and thoroughly enjoyed it, so I dived into the Old Girl’s Chateau Escape, excited to catch up with some old friends and meet some new ones.
Gina is a woman in her seventies who previously ended up being Dorothy’s companion, a woman twenty years her senior.
Somehow, Dorothy gets wind of a situation where a couple needs a companion for a short while and feels Gina would be ideal for the job, especially as she has a personal interest in this couple.
Gina agrees to go and travels to the South of France to help Meredith, a novelist, and her husband while their daughter has had to disappear in an emergency.
So much happens, and Gina proves to be a great problem solver and someone everyone ends up warming to, even the secretive, prickly Meredith.
There is a little mystery, an inkling of romance and lots of giggles to be had. Dorothy ends up in the mix, and causes her own ripples while there.
I really enjoyed reading this, and wonder whether Gina and Dorothy have any more adventures up their sleeves?
