The week draws to a close, well, the working week anyway. It’s been an eventful one. My first one with my little lovelies in my first ever proper class!
I can confirm that there is likely to be much blogger fodder from this experience, so I hope you are ready to join me on my ride!
We had tears… we had laughter…
we had screamers… we had fighters…
we had loners… we had cuddlers…
we had smilers… we had gigglers…
And being as they are 3-4 years old, it is inevitable that there are going to be toilet issues with the odd child…no I am not calling the kids odd!
But one is in a nappy still… and decided it would be great to fill his pants(nappy) one afternoon. Pleasant! It wasn’t bothering him, he doesn’t talk, but the smell, oh my the smell! And it took 2 of the staff to change him, as he wouldn’t lay down!!! Joy!
Today a child led us to the toilet. We thought they wanted to go. Approaching the cubicle, we saw a pair of shoes, a pair of trousers, a pair of itty bitty pants, and a full toilet… but no child. Uh Oh! Who was the commando child, and more importantly, where was he?
Playing with the others at the water tray, he was – quite happily – in the nuddy waist down!
(Heaven knows if he washed his hands before joining in with the play, or wiped! EWWWW!)
And so my teaching week ended, on a high actually! Aside from 2 children, all were settled in already, this week, and we look forward to next week. Routine wont kick in yet, but we need to take baby steps, and they will get there, they always do, with love!
Roll on Monday! (But not too fast, a little down time would be good too!)

I seem to have a whole bunch of them who suffer from Little Prince syndrome.. by that I mean that they are the only son in a family, and sometimes only child too. In an Indian family that can be lethal… They are generally spoilt, and used to getting their own way, no matter what. So to deal with 4-5 of those in one session… that’s pretty tough. At least I can communicate with them, as they are Punjabi speaking, but for the most part, no English! GREAT!

Yes – I know it well, the scandalised look on their little face when they realise a mere woman has dared to tell them what to do rather than accept her place!

Bless them, I love the fact that they have absolutely no inhibitions at that age! Glad they are settling in well though

That first week just goes on for ever! I had a busy first week back minus the poo and half naked children, mine are 15 & 16 it would make it a different story altogether! The lack of poo was made up for with the mountains of paper work after just one week, I think I would rather the poo.

Lol!!! The only thing is the assessment for these kids, it’s all by observation… At least with books you get more of a concrete idea!!! And I get the observation paperwork… As well as trying to make myself understood to the EAL babies!!

Love the age group, its hard work as we have a mixture of languages, so that can be fun, in a different way, but to see break throughs… So rewarding!
