I Have A Little Secret… But I Need A Little Input…

…I’m working on something… Hopefully I can realise my dreams in a slightly different way…

My novel Wedded Stress has hit a block purely because of time, but I fancy being published, still… So I am taking inspiration from my Blogily, amd possibly publishing some bits I have written…

What I want to know from you is,

A) Poems only?

B) Short stories only?

C) a compilation of both?

What would be more appealing to you?

I even have a possible name… But that will only be revealed if I actually do this!

My Create Space account has been set up…. I just need to fill it!

I am a fan of both and I have been waiting on more Webbed stress. But, I understand how things go. If you ask me you are good at the short stories as well as the poetry. Good luck and I hope you let me know where to find you….xoxoxo Annette

How about two books? One with your stories, the other with your poetry?

Short Stories for me, Ritu, but I’d go with what many others have said and keep both separate.
The very best of luck with the publication.

Hi, it all sounds exciting. I know I’m late to comment, but I’d certainly keep the poems and short stories separate, they’ll appeal to very different readers. My plea is don’t give up on the novel. IMHO, it is such a fabulous concept, has a broader appeal, and seems easier to market. X

Separating the two would make for a better option if you have enough material for two books. Goodluck.

I think separate is better than mixed and either will work, especially if you try and theme at least some at the start. I think people enjoy that with poetry to begin a collection even if towards the end they are standalone ideas.

I’m beginning to think that would be the best option…. My poems are ready to go… And I want to write some fresh short stories if I am to publish them…. Thank you for your input 😊

If your poems are ready, publish a poetry anthology. To me, the two together would be strange. I’ve never seen that. Some people love short stories but are not into poems, and others love poetry but are not into short stories. I think it’s best to keep them separate. That’s just my opinion and it’s worth as much as you payed for it. 😉

Thank you Vashti… I think the general consensus is that. .. unless there was a link between a particular poem and a story, it probably wouldn’t gel 😊

a compilation if (1) the short stories are not too long, and (2) there is connecting theme through the two forms, which will compliment one another [even if that connection is the poems reflect one side of the coin, the short stories the others].

I think you should do the book as you wish a good book should be. I read everything that captures my interest. It’s not about long or short stories or poems. I read words that says hey keep reading, this is interesting 🙂

Hi Ritu – My limited experience of publishing is that it is quite expensive. Whereas Publishers will take a risk with an established author or a celebrity, you may well be carrying all the financial risk if you are not in one of those categories. I introduce those comments because you may wish to investigate what content is most likely to recuperate your cost to get the book published. All poetry is certainly a niche market. Short stories could perhaps offer more promise. Your publisher will ultimately advise because they will have a commission involved! All the best, and you really should finish Wedded Stress. It has such a catchy title! 🙂

I appreciate poetry, but I’m a much bigger fan of the short story, both fiction and non-fiction. It works best for my attention span, I think. You will do great either way, no matter how you decide. 💖

I enjoy both, but books that have both tend to be confusing for readers. I’d recommend short stories only because people are more interested in those than poetry these days. It’s a quick read for a busy life.

Easy. I suggest a short story collection. Use some lines of poetry maybe as quotes at the beginning or to illustrate a point.

Good luck with this! As I’ve never published I can’t really give good advice but I think perhaps stick with one or the other to start with rather than combining both.

Well, first congrats on this new venture. Undoubtedly, you would do good in both but my suggestion is to keep them separate and start with short stories, and later, in the subsequents book maybe devote one entirely for poetry. All the best!

I would pick short stories over poetry any day, Ritu. I especially like short stories that are non-fiction. I’ll even take fictional short stories over poetry.

Awesome, Sis!!! AWESOME!!! You seem to be highly inspired and motivated, yeah, yeah, yeah!
This is very difficult to answer because you are good in everything. Actually, I love your short stories a lot, to be honest. You know how I am amazed by the way you are writing…. but…..for the first book, I would basically say that you go simple. Whatever looks easier for you start with that. Once you got that done you can go on with the other option. Since it doesn’t cost you anything you can do both anyway.
I would only combine stories and poems when one gives weight to the other.
    Hey, exciting, Sis! 😘😘

My opinion is a compilation of short stories. I would not combine them because I think the audiences are different. For example, I would buy a book of short stories but not a book of poetry. I appreciate a good poem; it’s just not what I enjoy. Also, your time will come. I just got on line to post my inspiration for the day – “God’s plan for you is as special as you are.”
