May 10– Flash Fiction – Cranes

Charli’s prompt this week:

May 10, 2018, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story defining “the charisma of cranes.” For centuries, cranes have inspired art and philosophy. You can write a crane story or create something new out of the phrase. Go where the prompt leads.

The Crane
Meena watched, hypnotised by the sight of Jin Su’s hands, deftly working that piece of paper.
It seemed like mere seconds before that flat sheet of paper, took the form of a magnificent bird, a crane.
“Wow! How did you do that, Jin? Teach me!”
“Sure, grab a piece of paper and we’ll go through it step by step.” Jin Su waved his hand towards a pile of origami paper.
A little while later she stood back, surveying her handiwork.
Not so much charisma of cranes as crane catastrophy!
“I think I’ll leave this folding magic to you, Jin.”

Crane catastrophy! Ha, ha! That would be my attempt as well. Clever flash!

Thanks, Charli! I can do it if I have time, but that I have very little of… however, I can fold a napkin in to something rather inappropriate… my hidden talent! 😉

When I started in my first office job, we had a girl go off on maternity leave. There was a send off for her at the local Indian restaurant. Of course, as things go, ‘special talents’ were mentioned, and as everyone showcased their particular ones around the table, inevitably, it was going to be my turn at some point.
So, I was faced with around 20 people watching me, and trust the restaurant to have skin coloured cloth napkins!
I folded, and suddenly a male appendage appeared, and as you fold, it ‘rises’…
Well, the hush, followed by “Wow! And we thought you were a good little Indian girl!”
Hello, I am Indian, yes, but I am also human, and over twenty, married so I have seen a ‘willy’ before too, and we fully enjoy saucy humour as much as the rest!
        There you have it!
        My special talent lol!

LOL. Origami certainly is an artform and like Meena I leave it to others to do and me to admire. Cute story.

Aw, paper cranes! I have never made one, but I have a long time friend who is an internationally recognized Origami person and he has sent me some of his work. Great take on the prompt.
