“Allowing a child to develop at their own pace is the way to create a happy, healthy generation – not pushing them to limits they are unable to fathom.”
A little tidbit from my thoughts after my first experience of moderation…

A mom was just telling me yesterday that her three-year-old son wasn’t able to handle full-day preschool (daycare) and so she pulled him out. Now, she wonders if she should get him “evaluated.” To expect any child of that age to stand in line, still still–much less learn their ABCs, etc., is asking so very much. I’m sure they have fun, but I think much of the structure imposed on young children is to herd them and make it easier on adults, not for any real benefit to the kids.

I agree… And to be honest, it’s not even for the adults… It’s expectations given to the adults by the powers that be, who don’t have a clue about realistic expectations!!!

Thank you Lorna…
I really don’t agree with the national curriculum as it stands… It’s why I did my teaching degree then didn’t teach for over 10 years.
I still do what I have to, but I’m a bit of a rebel too.
I try to make my class’s day fun as well as educational…
I’m not as regimented as others but it works…
And the kids have fun.
That’s my aim. To give a secure beginning to their learning, not building a fragile house of cards supported by weak foundations.
Something that gets blown apart at secondary, when small holes become gaping craters on knowledge, and all because we had to get every box ticked…

I wish the government realised their curriculum expectations were ridiculous so us teachers could do what we know the children really need!!!

As a teacher for over 30 years, I wish I could have had this printed, laminated, and hung up behind my desk for every parents’ night! 🙂

Thank you Darnell. It is hard seeing kids pushed to limits that aren’t always attainable…

They already try… But when their little precious can’t even sit still it hold a pencil… It’s highly unlikely we can do much more than teach them to listen… Not how to write a prizewinning paper or create a surgeon!!!
