Editing Hell!
Another word for editing
Could be simply - HELL
It's not enough to write a book
You need to rewrite it as well!
Blood sweat and tears go
Into every word you write
And the rereading and rewriting
Eats into every night
Your story - finally complete
You happily type 'The End'
Until you find a plot hole
It drives you round the bend!
Your beta finds a typo
You quickly get it fixed
Now to send to your editor
Will your story have them bewitched?
"Hmmm, not too bad, but change that bit
And sort out your point of view
I'm not to sure about this arc..."
Jeez, my story'll read like new!
"It's not a lot, just scrap those words
And these chapters too.
Write this instead, add more pizazz."
Original words left - a few
Weeks or months spent unpicking things
And stitching together again
I'll win this battle with my book
And the war too, with my pen!
Finally complete, though
It's not the tale originally planned
Still, another step closer to my dream
Of holding my book in my hand

You’re strong, Ritu. It’s hard when you have poured your heart and soul into writing. Take the good and forget the bad when you get feedback. My worst feedback ever, shocking actually, I gave to a published author to read what it said. Mind you, this was a full typed page. She just chuckled and said frankly she didn’t agree. So, that was my moment of realizing that much of feedback is good, yet it is also an opinion. Does that help? 😍

It does help. I’ve had opinions from trusted sources already so I know I have something worth publishing… But irs the little things, you know!

Hello, Ritu! Yes! Editing can be a pain in the arse for sure! Ha, ha! Editors don’t tell you what to write. They simply tell you about areas that are not clear or that are too wordy and other problems and then the writer has to figure out how to fix it. If your editor completely changes your story you’re in trouble. Loved your poem!😊💕

Not an easy road, is it? I enjoy the developmental editing and my story has remained the same only better. It is a lot of work though.
