#SoCS April 7/18 – Passive/Aggressive

Linda’s prompt for SoCS this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “passive/aggressive.” Use one, use both, bonus points if you start your post with one or the other. Enjoy!

Now, usually, I would have spent ages trying to think how I could start the post with either word, and end with it too… but as I am officially away, and I just wanted to pay lip service to my regular SoCS post, I think I can excuse the need for the bonus points!

I think I have the perfect example of passive/aggressive behaviour from this weekend alone!

We have booked a lovely serviced apartment for a few nights with the kids – a little breakaway.

Hubby Dearest is great at finding reasons for requesting upgrades etc.

This time, he had requested an apartment with a balcony. The one we paid for apparently didn’t have one, so the company offered to upgrade us to a ‘Premier’ apartment, but it was in a slightly different area.

Two bathrooms (always a bonus) and two balconies – and all the mod cons requested. Perfect!

When we got here, it was a little trek from the carpark,  and space was, shall we say, compact. Yes, there were two of everything, but it was all rather small.

He decided to contact them, to mention his disappointment.

It turns out that the reason we didn’t get the originally booked place was because there was actual damage to it. And it sounds like we didn’t even get a like for like swap.. but a downgrade, and all for the same price!

Time for him to get all passive/aggressive.

He’s good at that. Manages to make someone feel obliged to do something with his words, conveying his message in a way that sounds polite, but is actually quite harsh.

Anyway, as we sat at dinner, he was exchanging emails with this guy who then offered to taxi us to a different place (which looks better in the photos) but is in a slightly dodgy area.

So far, the plan is, we sleep on it… take em swimming in the morning and then decide on whether it’s worth moving, or arrange for some discount, and stay where we are…

Let’s see what happens eh!

#SoCS Mar 17/18 – Buns

Linda’s prompt for SoCS this week…

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “bun.” Find a word that contains “bun” or use it as a word all by itself. Have fun!

Now Linda, you are quite naughty, giving us a prompt like bun!

BUNS!

I could go all American and talk about the merits of the sweet buns my Hubby Dearest has (it’s just peachy!) and the fact that this past week, I have noticed that my Lil Man has suddenly started filling the back seat of his pants in a similar fashion.

Not a bad bodily trait to have inherited from his father!

In fact, I have been enjoying teasing him a little (I know, cruel mummy, but what can I do?!)  about the fact that his cute lil tushie may just start attracting the attention of the opposite sex, but you know 12 year-old-boys – that is not really on his agenda of things to do just yet!

No, I won’t write about that.

So instead, I’ll go all seasonal.

In case it’s missed your attention anywhere in the world, it is Easter weekend. Celebrating the resurrection of Christ if you are Christian and religious, and celebrating the abundance of chocolate eggs, Cadbury’s Mini Eggs, Cadbury’s Crème Eggs, chocolate bunnies… (you get the gist?) and Hot Cross Buns!

Oooh, those sweet, spiced little-crossed buns of deliciousness!

I know you can get them pretty much any time of year now, but I do associate them with Easter, and traditionally, that is when they were made.

  • Way back in the twelfth century an Anglican monk apparently made them and added the cross in honour of Good Friday.
  • The superstitious English population of the sixteenth century thought they were medicinal, or magical even, so Elizabeth the First limited their production or sale of these sweet buns to funerals, Christmas and the Friday before Easter. Though that didn’t last as people would just make them at home.
  • Did you know the belief was that if you made Hot Cross Buns on Good Friday they would never go stale??
  • People even hung buns freshly baked on Good Friday to the rafters of their houses as they thought they would ward off evil spirits in the coming year.
  • Then there was the rather lovely belief that sharing a Hot Cross Bun with loved ones guaranteed friendship in the coming year!

Now, I could have written a haibun, but a limerick came to mind instead!

There’s nothing quite like the taste
Of butter melted in haste
On a toasted cross bun
That’s hot and just YUM
But too many aren’t good for your waist!

Going back to that last belief I mentioned, I’d love to share a virtual Hot Cross Bun with all of you reading, and may our Blog-Pal-Ship last a happy, long time!

Happy Easter Peeps!
