Spidey’s Serene Sunday #427 – Empty Pot

“You cannot pour from an empty pot.”

Sissy Gavrilaki

Thank you, Spidey, for this quote.

I think it’s very important to remember this, especially if you are someone who has many plates to keep spinning, constantly.

That’s me.

Work, home, writing. Appointments, data, deadlines. Feeding, caring, creating…

It’s constant.

And we’ve had a death in the family, too.

My go-to is to want to care for everyone, spreading myself thinly, so I miss nothing, but recently, someone who cares for me reminded me that I need to look at my own mental health, and well-being first, followed by my little family.

Everything else comes after.

And I agree.

This weekend, I’ll make sure there are breaks involved, where I’m replenishing my pot.

So, Peeps, are you good at recognising when you need to refill? 😊

Spidey’s Serene Sunday #426 – Am Proofing

“Read obsessively. Write furiously. Edit carefully.”

Sissy Gavrilaki

A bit of a continuing editing theme this week, Spidey!.

So I finished my copy edits last week. And was sent the e-arc file to peruse on Saturday.

The whole day was filled with reading and skimming it to ensure it looked as it should.

Having already learned how to format on Vellum when I originally self-published Marruiage Unarranged, I know it can be simple in some ways, but certain things can be a real trouble to get set!

So I’ve done my bit so far and sent back the report of what is looking great and what isn’t sitting well and a couple of omissions or typos… (as far as I could see!)

One step closer to that proper book!

It feels like no matter how many times you read a manuscript or how many eyes pass over it, there is always something that gets missed!

So, Peeps, what would you do if you read a book and found errors? Would you contact the author or leave a bad review? 😊

Spidey’s Serene Sunday #425 – Am Editing

“When something can be read without effort, great effort has gone into its writing.”

Enrique Jardiel Poncela

Thank you for finding this quote, Spidey.

This weekend, I am heavily into editing, so am not able to write a long rambling post for today.

Wish me luck!

So, Peeps, are you excited about my newest release to be?😊

Spidey’s Serene Sunday #424 – Attitude of Gratitude

“The smile on my face doesn’t mean my life is perfect. It means that despite my challenges, I choose to focus on my blessings.”

Anonymous

I love this way of thinking, Spidey. Thank you for finding this quote.

I am a firm believer in the thought of ‘enough’.

We could all wish for lots of wealth, success, material things, fame (if that’s what you want), the perfect body, and health.

But there is never a guarantee that you will achieve many of the above.

I feel blessed in my life that I have a nuclear and extended family I can rely on. We have a beautiful roof over our heads with a gorgeous furbaby. My children are a blessing in themselves after our struggles with fertility.

I am blessed with friends and colleagues I can call friends. I have my writer friends, blog friends, mum crew friends, and old-school friends with whom I am still in touch.

We do not want for food or clothes. We have cars and all the white goods many take for granted.

I have a job. And I am blessed that it is a job that I have wanted ever since I was young.

Through hard work and the support of many people I met here via this blog, I have achieved my dream of being published.

But there are struggles. Struggles I choose not to speak about, all of the time. And struggles that I have opened up about.

Because, despite these struggles, I know I am blessed.

And for that, I will be forever grateful.

So, Peeps, how often do you practice gratitude for what you have?😊

Spidey’s Serene Sunday #423 – Back to the Grindstone… Again

“Let us remember: One book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world.”

Malala Yousafzai

Thanks for that quote, Spidey. That Malaa is one wise young woman.

I’ll be honest. I am still shattered.

Two weeks off work, and even though we haven’t done anything over the top, personal circumstances have left me less rested than before.

Am I excited to go back?

It’s a busy big term, as you can guess.

On top of the main job of educating the children, we have a couple of short weeks due to bank holidays, including the one for the King’s Coronation. Then there is the writing of reports, the assessing of children at the end of the year, progress meetings, as well as, for me, the huge task of looking at the new entrants to our school, due in September, filtering through them, contacting the parents, and trying to allocate classes for them, looking at transition activities for our current children, to ease them into the world of Year One, after their Reception year, as well as meeting the children who will be in our hands, after. ( And I hear there are chances of more strikes from certain unions, which, though for important causes, doesn’t make our lives any easier in the present moment…)

I am already looking at that May half-term, two-week break with joy! (Which will be busy, too, since Lil Man’s A-levels will start, and there is the small matter of book two being released in the middle of it!), and then the summer vacation, another six weeks later!

But, honestly, I am not wishing the time away. I love being with the children but could do without the paperwork and red tape.

Still, at least I have the breaks to look forward to!

So, Peeps, how do you get over the back-to-work blues?😊
