I just finished Because I Was Lonely by Hayley Mitchell.

Image result for because I was lonely

It’s a brilliantly written, disturbing tale of a mum, Rachel,  who is depressed and finds an old friend, Adam, on Facebook. The relationship that develops takes on stalker-like tendencies and it is encouraged while Adam is having his own issues with his wife, Julia.

Once his real life settles, he hopes her own life with her husband David is finding a path to happiness too, and that they can forget their brief but intense online relationship, but it seems Hayley has other thoughts at the end of the story… my sequel begins like this…

The doorbell. Adam tensed. Julia was home.
What if it was her?
Rachel had seemed unhinged in that last message, talking of finding him.
He saw the gas man leave, and filled with relief.
The phone rang. That feeling of tension mounted.
Then his Facebook Message notification lit up on his PC…

They were convinced I wouldn’t get planning permission.
But I persevered.
And now, there it is, at the end of my garden.
Not vast, like my last, but big enough to reminisce.
Well, if I’m to live again in a peasants body, I should be able to remember my past,  Cleo thought.

Here goes!

A knock on the door.
Ernest peeked gingerly out of the window.
Oh, great!
Another mob had come to badger him, wanting his help. That was the third this week.
How long could he hide for?
He cursed himself for losing his precious amulet.
Without it, he was nothing but a coward.

The persistent dog

Now it was so tempting to write something about a cute furry animal, barking and barking to get attention… but I wasn’t going the easy route!

“C.mon baby, you wanna drink?”
Turning away from the alcohol fumes, wafting their way over the bar, Tina went to serve the next customer.
Jim asked again, grabbing her hand this time.
She leered at her cheating ex, who thought a quick drink would fix everything.
The persistent dog never gave up.
