Library

Guess where the munchkins and I spent our morning?

Can you believe that, given our collective love of books, it is was the first time they have been to the local library?! We got them memberships and while there, the were introduced to the Summer Reading Challenge which needs them to read at least 6 books over the break.

They were so excited that they eagerly chose their books, and said “Mummy, can we stay here and read some?” So we stayed for an hour or so, they read a couple of books each and got their first stamps too!!

It took me back to my childhood, and all the fun I had in our local library. Once we had our cards, I would walk there alone, and return my old books, and then browse for ages to find new books to borrow. I remember reading the whole Anne Of Green Gables series from that library! Slowly, as I grew older the library became less of a place to read fiction from, but as more of a study aid, and I spent must of my University study time in one. Gradually though, it became defunct for me, with me getting my own books to read, and the Internet for reference.

I forgot something! I loved the library and books at school so much that I was even the librarian in my fifth Year! Here’s a pic, but don’t laugh at the uniform and glasses!

Seeing these two enjoying this morning though, makes me yearn for those days again, and I hope many other children are introduced to the delights of their local library, for fun, not just for study!

Here they are, enjoying books!

I have always been a library member, and am also a member of the hospital library too (which is handy for reference books).Miss Hap is also a library member but go that much. She does still read every night and has a huge collection of books. I am thrilled that she has this habit as I have always encouraged it ever since she was tiny 🙂

I think it’s lovely to take the kids to the library. Technology has taken over somewhat, so it’s nice to take a step back in time (it reminds me of my own childhood!) and do it the old fashioned way! I’ve just started taking my kids too (I had run out of ideas for the summer holidays!) and they had a whale of a time! They also got the cute library cards!

I LOVE your throwback pic, btw!The school librarian. That is so cute!

Don’t know what I would do without the library. Books are so expensive. My kids and I are there every time our books are up for renewal.

Sweet pic, Ritu. I remember goint go the library and getting books over books. I read tons of books back in the 80s. It was really wonderful. I too wish my younger kids would get caught by that magic.

I love the library – visit ever week and check out dozens of books. Still can’t believe that these nice people loan me all of these books for free! Good for you for introducing your children to the library. Love the photo of you on your post 🙂

That is awesome!! Seeing how much they enjoyed it means we will definitely go back more often, and it’s a great place in the holidays!!!!

I take my 5 year old about once a fortnight… the 2 year old less often (he always ends up playing chase!). In fact, the 2 year old was registered at the library BEFORE his birth was registered!
