Here’s where the old pics come into play!
Tonight my old school class are having a reunion! I am going to be travelling to Birmingham to my parents, with Lil Princess in tow, to hopefully see many old faces from my school years! We have all changed, married, grown up, become mums or career women, or both, and our main reason for meeting this year? We have all finally turned 40! I thing I was the last one to hit the milestone, and one of the others thought it would be a great time to meet up again!
I’m not sure how many of us are going to be there, out of 50 girls, spread amongst 2 classes, but I am so excited! Some, I haven’t seen for 24 years, some 21, some a little less than that, but I think I can safely say I haven’t met any of my class mates for at least 13 years! The power of social media means we have all been parts of each others lives in one way or another. There probably won’t be huge surprises as to who is who, hopefully we will all remember each others names! (I was always known as Ratty, to my friends, nothing to do with personality, but shortened from my full name Ratinder, once we had watched Wind In The Willows for the first time in school together!)
I haven’t been to a reunion before, and living in Kent after marriage, a good 3 hours away it was never likely that I would bump into people! So here goes to a fabulous night of reminiscing!
I shall make sure I post all about it soon!

Did you have fun?? Remember, “Life begins at 40.” And also, “40s is the new 30s!”
Cheers~

Yes… Ratty! Nothing to do with my personality though, honestly!
We watched Wind In the Willows in First Year, and the class saw Ratty, and my full first name is Ratinder, … Rat… inder… so guess what stuck? 😀

This is such an exciting event. I remember when we had our first class reunion after 23 years. It was amazing. We all were together in our old “US” immediately. So funny. It was an amazing evening. I wish you a lot of fun, Ritu! So happy for you. Big hugs!!!

Thanks sis! It was lovely! I was the first to leave as Lil Princess was refusing to go sleep without seeing me, but I managed a couple of hours with around 12 of my old classmates! It was wonderful!!! 😊

My grammar school class had a 25 year reunion in 1997. However I wasn’t invited though there was really no excuse as to ‘finding me’ as my maiden name was unusual and there was only one of us in the phone book!
However, I worked with the father of one of my ‘classmates’ and he kindly gave me a copy of the newsletter of the event.
The year stars / ‘swots’ / top students were married with four or five kids, or single parents, my so called ‘friend’ had four kids, was on her third marriage and had become a sports fanatic, and one was heavily pregnant with her eighth child!
Only one had fulfilled the school programme of becoming a nurse, none were teachers, and sadly two had died, one of which had been a fantastic athlete.
I wondered what they’d make of me and my life: the teased and ridiculed class misfit with ‘no future or brains’, now a financial analyst on a good salary, umpteen foster children under her belt, happily married and owning her home outright.
In a way, I’m glad I missed it, as I felt I still didn’t have anything in common with these girls, and having moved away for some considerable years from their normal environment may well have just increased the gulf!.

I was never very outgoing as a school kid, but I pottered along. But kept in quiet contact with some. We have been in tough via Facebook too. And it s funny how those I seem to have more of a connection with now are not necessarily those I would have been seen with at school! But I am looking forward to it!!
You’re right though, it is strange to see who has ended up doing what, marrying whom, living where!

Enjoy it and have fun. For me, I had no contact with anyone after I left the area anyway.
